Anime Maritime Results

I went to Anime Maritime yesterday, and it was great! It was a smaller con, but it's not fair to compare it to Anime North which is the biggest anime convention in Canada. Also, this year was only a one day event, however, overall we're all ready planning to go again next year.

Also, what's great is that next year it's going to be a three day even and it takes place on July 1st, 2nd and 3rd (which is Canada weekend for us). So, Stu, Jon, my cousin and I can go up on a Saturday spend a night in the hotel then come back the next day. It's nice to have a con that's only a two hour drive from where I live. No worries of spending money on plane tickets.

There was also a Beatrice (from Umineko) cosplayer who was beyond thrilled that I knew who she was instantly. Apparently, no one had recognized her character before that. Stu and I chatted with her for a while, she seemed like a nice person. We even talk of the idea of her, Stu and I dressing up as Umineko characters next year so we can take photos and maybe do a skit or something. (And she was thrilled when I mentioned I had made a Battler plushie for my friend Jon.)

Also, I won't be online tonight since my cousin is still visiting, but I'll make sure to pop on again Monday for anyone that wants to chat to me. ^_~

I'm glad you had fun.
Smaller cons may have fewer guests and panels; but they have a lot of charm when the right people are involved. Personally, I got a little burnt out on big cons ever since the San Diego Comic Con started growing and mutating like that kid at the end of Akira. >_<

It's always a blast finding cosplayers from obscure shows! If I were a better seamstress (and less camera shy) I'd totally make it my mission to represent shows that don't get enough fandom love. :)

For the dealers room especially I find. I went to Anime North the year before, and while it's fun, it was impossible to move in the dealers room. It is nice to a smaller number.

It just felt good to put a smaller on a her face. I remember feeling frustrated being dressed as Horo, but it was before the series was license so not a lot of people recognized her character. So, I was glad I made her day.

GAH! Try maneuvering a crowded dealers' room when you're really short and have a huge set of wings tied to your back! The first time I wore my Hawkgirl costume was at the San Diego con. And I was bounced around like a pinball machine because people kept bumping my wings and knocking me down! And, because I got knocked down a lot, my mace kept breaking. :-(

....sorry, the mention of crowded dealers' rooms sometimes triggers that bad memory. Don't mind me. -_-

Local cons are pretty fun. Even though they are often smaller, it's good to see that what you love is at least loved by another group close by. It's like... encourageing.

It is! I also got to meet the artist of Vampirates (a webcomic I read) however, she hasn't updated in a long time. I didn't bring that issue up with her, but I could tell she was thinking "Yeah...I haven't updated that in a long time. @_@"

Hey, once you get Namesake going, you could probably come as a guest artist. I know they had webcomic artists before as guests. XD

I looked, but unfortunately there were none that I saw. However, they did run Slayers Evolution-R as one of the showings.
