With all of the bad news lately, a bit of good news has been found.

I heard about this last week, but I didn't find time to type it up until now.

A researcher here in Atlantic Canada has discovered that a common virus can kill the steam cells of breast cancer and it doesn't hurt any of the other cells.

I also heard him say on the news that he thinks he will be able to start human testing within the year and that this could possibly cure other types of cancers.

I feel so very hopeful right now. It's just wonderful to think that after all of these years of the "Run for the Cure" and other events to raise money for cancer research, the hard work is finally paying off.

Wow, that's pretty interesting (and the first I'd heard of it!). Imagine that, a virus harmless to the healthy parts of the body but damaging to the out-of-control cells! It is nice to see progress coming about for that as well...here's hoping that it can help many people.

On that note, I did hear on the news today that there was also potential for a cure for diabetes using stem cells.

As a type one diabetic, I can personally attest that this is true! I hope and pray to see a cure within the next decade! :D

I very much hope so too. :) My sister is also type one so I think that would help her feel very liberated. (Actually, parts of the news report I watched annoyed me--they went on to say how a cure wasn't so necessary anymore because of all the advanced pumps, monitors, etc....While all those are well and good, they can't exactly compare to doing away with the worry forever!)

Yeah, I did hear about that. Here's hoping we find many cures within the next decade.

Maybe it was easy for those people to say that because they didn't have to worry about it themselves. -_-; Anyway, I agreed with you. It's one thing to properly monitor it, but it's another thing to not have to worry about diabetes completely. A person like that would feel they had the world lifted off their shoulders.

Maybe, though it was still kind of a thoughtless comment. :/ I couldn't fully understand how my sister feels about it, but I do know that regardless of whatever medical equipment she has, it's still something that she has to constantly watch and worry about--a big one is money, too. All that stuff costs and already being a diabetic, she can't get coverage through most programs. So, yes, a permanent cure would be a wonderful thing!

I agree with you 100%. I'm also on a pump, and I'm a conscientious person with my health, but I still go to the hospital a number of times a year. The diabetes is progressive and degenerative by definition, and it's the havoc it wreaks on the vitals more than the immediate-term hassles that mandate a cure. Gosh, how dumb people can be, ne?

That would be so amazing if this really leads to a real cure.

Maybe it'll help us get another step closer to curing other diseases, such as AIDS, MS, thyroiditis, etc. etc.

It is always wonderful to know that money being raised for such research is actually doing something. This is terrific news! Here's hoping it doesn't get bogged down with regulations and such in the meantime.

This is awesome *_*
I hope this cure will work for other type of cancers too (breast cancer is HORRIBLE, but if taken in time you can recover fully like one of my friends did) expecially metastasys *shivers*
