Day #8: Your favorite villain

For those who saw the Aladdin tv series, I think most would agree that Mozenwrath is probably the most memorable (male villain anyway, I think Mirage is also up there.)

Mozenwrath is like Aladdin's opposite, in the same way that Joker is opposite to Batman. They're the same age and both came across powerful magic, but handle it in different ways. Plus, Mozenwrath was willing to give up his right hand for power (you can't say that skeleton hand isn't creepy) while as he stated Aladdin "was given magic on a silver platter." Do I sense resentment much?

For a brief bio, Mozenwrath was the apprentice to the ruler of the Black Sands, but then somehow over threw him and took over himself (and made his former master into a Zombie @_@). He is probably one of Aladdin's most powerful enemies and as a controller one of zombies the creepiest too. I guess what intrigues me the most about him is that the tv series only hints at his backstory. Did he start out as a streetrat like Aladdin? Did something happen to make him want power? Who did he make the bargain for power with? Also, there is a plot element I had really wish the tv series had wrapped up.

In on episode, it's revealed that Mozenwrath has a shorten life thanks to the bargain he made, so to extend his life he tried to switch bodies with Aladdin. As you can imagine, this plan failed, but they never bring this issue up again. Did he find someway to extend his life, or did he just die? Granted, maybe that was why he was after Genie's magic so much, to use his powers to extend his life.

Oh, fun fact, according to wiki for the third Aladdin movie they were toying with the idea of revealing that Mozenwrath was actually Aladdin's brother. DUN! DUN! DUN!....yeah, I'm rather glad they didn't go that route, that would have been weird. Plus, it would have been confusing for people who never watch the tv series.

I loved the Aladdin series when I was a kid! Now that I think back on it, it's pretty funny that Aladdin and Jasmine spent the entirety of the series living in sin. ~_^

Mozenwrath was a badass villain. I remembered the plot point about his magic shortening his life and I also wish that had been addressed before the show ended.

Making Mozenwrath and Aladdin brothers would have been a weird twist. I'm glad they didn't go with it. Not only would it have been contrived, it would have opened up too many weird questions. Like, how many siblings does Al have? And did Al's dad run around the desert and leave bitter, fatherless children all over the place?

Plus, you would think the sultan would have gotten Aladdin a nicer place to live. It couldn't have looked good for the future ruler to live in the poor area.

There are just so many more plot ideas they could have played with, heck we might have gotten to see the person/creature Mozenwrath battered with.

I'm really glad they didn't make them brothers. It would have been too awkward and Disney may had trouble explaining the issue about Al's dad "fathering children" children show. XP

Ooh, good choice! The Aladdin series really did have a lot of great recurring villains, but Mozenrath was definitely one of the more threatening! It was pretty creepy when it was revealed he sacrificed his right arm in order to gain power.

I always felt that if Mozenrath hadn't had such lust for power, he and Aladdin would have been comrades, if not friends.

The series had a nice variety of villains, from silly to just plain scary.

I think that is the other thing that intrigues me about Mozenrath too, since he and Aladdin were always so similar. That notion might have caused the brother idea originally for the writers.

Now that I think about it, Aladdin and Mozenwrath do look alike (they have the same nose and face shape). I wonder if Mozenwrath was intended to be Aladdin's brother from the get go and the writers just changed their minds before the movie was made.
