I agree. It would have been great if Shirley had accepted that Senel didn't love her romantically and moved on. It would have made her a lot more dimensional and easier to relate to. But instead they chose to make her a genocidal bunny-boiler (and I won't even get into the psychological bugaboos of desiring a man who was intimately involved with her sister >_<). I could have forgiven that if the game ended with the gang kicking her ass to stop her from becoming Mermaid-Hitler. But, sadly, forgiving unrepentant murderers was a disturbing theme that seemed to run through this whole game!
The worst part about that Chloe sidequest was that her parents' killer wasn't even sorry about what he did! He was a bitter asshole and basically kept saying "My daughter is sick and it's not fair that rich people can afford to save their kids. So it was OK for me to kill your parents in front of you even though they didn't even fight back". And the entire gang felt sorry for him and ragged on Chloe for insisting that he deserved to be punished for his crimes simply because his daughter (who was insufferably annoying and had a weird girl-crush on Chloe BTW) would be sad if he died or went to jail. ....even though I knew better, I kept playing that sidequest in the hopes that the player could kill the guy. But instead, he gets a "happily ever after" with his little girl and Chloe is brow-beaten into letting the man who ruined her life get away without so much as a slap on the wrist! AAARG!!!
(Sorry for the long rant. Legendia does this to me because it could have been a great game, but the later half screwed it up.)
Are you kidding? I could rant about this game for HOURS! LOL I started Legendia just a few days after finishing the AWESOME Tales of the Abyss. So that just compounded my hate and disappointment.
