1. How did you discover anime?
The blame can be placed on my older brother. He was into anime years before I was and I slowly got into it. I had gotten into Sailor Moon and Digimon on my on, but I was walking by when he was watching an episode of Slayers. I sat down to check it out and thus I got hooked. It also helped that he had a nice anime collection for me to go through. ^_^
2. How long have you known your fiance? (How did you meet?)
7-8 years, we knew each other in high but we didn't start to date until University (although we went to our high school prom together, but that was just as friends.)
3. Do you see kids in your future?
*blush* Yes, at least 2 kids and at the most 3 kids.
4. What do you think each of the Cutie Mark Crusaders' Cutie Marks should be?
Sweetie Bell's would be a bell sing her talent seems to be singing, Scootaloo's would be ballet slippers for dancing and I'm not 100 percent sure what Apple Blooms would be, but I can see her having needle and thread (granted I can't see how to make his talents apple related).
5. Whatever Pinkie Pie is on, should we legalize it?
YES! Clearly whatever she's on makes the best parties! ^_^

In high school, I joined the SF club and this was how I made my first real friends (still have some of them, actually *waves*). A lot of our activities were 'watching things', and some of the club were anime fans, so I saw some movies (Vampire Hunter D, Akira, and Appleseed) and a couple episodes of things. Including, ironically, Slayers, which I liked but I was a poor high schooler so didn't feel like shelling out the money for VHS tapes.
Anyway, one of my friends, Sara, was a Big Sailor Moon fan. And also Pokémon. And my friend Cassie was a Tenchi Muyo fan. So I decided to start watching those, and got into the upswing of anime on TV -- around the time the end of Sailor Moon R (and S) started airing.
Some of it was fandom -- by that, I mean my friends. It was also what got me into Star Wars (and Babylon 5), since Cassie is a giant SW fan. Others were the fact I found I enjoyed serial TV, and anime was my first exposure to it. But, by the time I graduated, I was interested enough to attend the UNL anime club.
2. What's your favorite mythological animal?
Selkie. I have a strong love of marine mammals, so seals, otters, whales and matinees, and the ocean, so stories about people who live under the ocean fascinate me.
3. What is your favorite video game?
Earthbound is a classic. As is Pokémon. Earthbound just is a well-put together game plot, even if the endgame battle system is... eh. Pokémon... well, it's a good way to kill time, and the monsters are so damn cute.
4. Besides Avatar, do you enjoy any other western cartoons?
Um... not currently. I don't watch much TV, so it's mostly what people bring me via recs. Friends are trying to get me into the Monster High webisodes...
5. Have you ever been outside of the states?
Yes, though just to Europe. My dad did a postdoc in Germany, so when I was a toddler we lived there for less than a year (Mom brought us back early). I also have family in Ireland, and have visited twice, and went with Dad and my stepmother.
This year the BIG planetary science conference is in France, so I want to get the funding to go.

Date: 2011-05-07 09:45 pm (UTC)The first one is I used to watch 'Voltron' when I was a kid and it was one of my daily rituals when I got home from school. But, I never knew it was actually anime until I was much older.
My first foray into actual anime was 'InuYasha'. I was flipping channels one day and caught it on The Cartoon Network and was greatly intrigued. I was hooked ever since. I mean, I did venture in other series and I would meticulously research everything about a particular series. I still do in a way.
2. From an episode of 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' actually. It was during the fifth season where Glory kidnaps Dawn and begins to unravel. She calls Dawn 'little snapdragon' at one point and I kinda liked it. Kinda boring story, actually LOL!
3. All kinds, really. I like chick lit, fantasy, sci fi, mystery, young adult, graphic novels. Anything I find interesting, really.
4. Well, I don't play a LOT of RPG's, but I think good characters are the most important. I mean, storylines can change and evolve all the time, but if you have good characters, they can make even a somewhat lame storyline seem a little bit better because you have the character fleshed out and can better adjust as the story adjusts. Does that make sense?
5. Twice. Once I went to Niagara Falls with my dad and step-mother and step-sister. that was fun. Then we drove through Ontario once to get to New Hampshire to collect my step-sister's belongings when she died. I would love to visit for much longer and go to other areas of Canada, especially since I now have more friends up there! :D
