Another Smurf Trailer is out. Got to say, the only reason that I MIGHT see this movie is because of Neil Patrick Harris. "Do not be fooled by their cuteness!" XD He has the power to make anything watchable.

Also, apparently this movie involves time travel. Would have it been so hard to do the plot of the movie in medieval times? You know, the period the Smurf's story is SUPPOSE to take place? (Granted, this might be more linked to a Spoony review in which he pointed out a lot of the movies in the 80s and 90s and characters in a different time line being forced on modern earth. Masters of the Universe, one of the Star Trek movies, etc. It has been done a lot.)

Oh, you watch Spoony, too? That's so cool.

As for the Smurfs, well I suppose this was going to happen at some point. I'm not sure what to think of this but you may be right about Neil. He'll probably be the reason this movie is any good.

Time-traveling smurfs is canon though, at least with the animation show! The last season was about a group of smurfs trying to get home after Papa Smurf played with some magical time crystals.

Totally not canon in the comics, that happen in medieval times. Smurfs are actually a spin-off of a comic about a knight and his squire. In fact, i'm kinda disappointed. They could have included those characters in the movie and based the movie on one of the best books of the series : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Smurfs_and_the_Magic_Flute

Ah, okay. It's been a few years about the tv show.

I was just reading about that movie, I remember seeing it years ago as a kid, but I barely remember it. I need to rewatch sometime. *goes to search youtube*

Oh, wait, I DID see the first trailer. Just kidding!

I dunno what to think of this movie, honestly. I don't wanna compare it to Alvin & the Chipmunks but...>>;

Yeah, Spoony is one of my favorite reviewers. I think his Highlander reviews is one of my favorites.

Neil has the power to make any thing 20 percent cooler. ^_^ I just love him.

I think unlike Alvin and the Chipmunks, this could have been a movie, but setting it in modern day just doesn't sit well with me.

I didn't even have to see Yogi Bear to know it just didn't make the cut.

Why wouldn't they place the Smurfs in medieval times? In a word: Expense.

It's easier to make CG abominations in a modern setting since they don't have to do extensive work to produce stages, period dress, or what have you, in order to make their movie. This way they can use their budget on the CG characters, and hope that they make a killing at the movies.

Personally, I'm sick and tired of 2D characters being converted to a 3D world. If they had made a traditionally animated Smurfs movie, I would actually be excited about it! But this? No thank you.

Yes, heaven forbid they should actually spend money to make a decent movie. -_-;

I hear ya, I didn't want to see the Yogi Bear movie. I think it would have been totally awesome if they made a 2D animated movie of the Smurfs instead of this. It just looks odd to me.

You're a Spoony fan, too? Awesome! His FF8 reviews are my favorites!

As for this Smurf movie...it could be worse. We should just be grateful that Unicef didn't write it:

Seriously, no matter how much money is spent on CGI, some cartoon characters just look wrong and/or creepy in 3-dimensions. I don't know how anyone who loved the original cartoons can sit through these without feeling uncomfortable.

That is the main reason I didn't see Yogi Bear, he looks too odd in CG. Let's just hope they don't tackle any other classic cartoons, but I know that's not likely.

(*Watches clip* Well, there goes one precious childhood memory. @_@ )

What bugs me the most is when these movies design the characters into that creepy, "uncanny valley" between realistic animal and their classic cartoon look (Scooby Doo and Yogi Bear are the worst examples of this).

Sorry I had to expose you to the Unicef clip. But misery loves company (Mwa ha ha ha!).

Yeah, I doubt I will see this. I don't need my childhood raped on the big screen...

I'm totally scared now XDDD I mean, I did watch that series when I was a child but... Something tells me not to watch this movie if I loved my childhood... ((but at the same time I'm pretty curious about mess with my childhood memories))
