I got to dress up today!

It was for the Bean supper in the library today. It's one of their many ways to raise money, but boy did we have a turn out. We had a bit of a hard time to find seats for everyone. Anyway, today was also pioneer day and so I got to dress up as a pioneer woman. It was fairly easy costume, but I would loved wearing it.

I swear, when I tied a handkerchief around my head I was tempted to start singing "Match Maker" because I looked like one of the daughters from fiddler on the Roof. It was fun and there were a few treats left over from the dinner

And I stole this from [livejournal.com profile] dqbunny

Talk about ten different things that most readers of your writing would never know or have noticed if you had never told them. This can be applied to both original fiction and fanfiction. It can be something as simple as an obscure literary allusion, inspiration for a scene or an entire story/ficlet, etc, or as complex as... well, just complex. Even just a 'why I wrote this' type of thing or something about the execution of a scene is fine. Just so long as it's something a reader would either never know or would have to have a very good eye to catch. If you can't come up with ten different things, try to come up with as many as you can.

1. In Wild Hearts I called Lina "Calamity Lina" and gave her a whip as a main choice of a weapon as a gun. This is actually a reference to a cartoon I loved to watch a few years back (but sadly only got one season). The cartoon was about and called "Calamity Jane" and in the show Calamity Jane used mainly a whip and only use a gun as a second choice. Also, I also made "Wild Gourry" as a reference to Wild Bill Hiccup because they had a rather "special" relationship.

2. For "Cake Catastrophe" I had to ask my Mom about what kind of mistakes one can make when baking a cake and believe it or not Lina's green runny cake actually existed. My mom told me that one time when she had baked a cake she didn't have enough icying sugar and there was only green food colouring in the house. Hence, the cake (which still tasted fine) looked like someone threw up on it.

3. In "Stolen Swords and Brides to Be" I put Thor's hammer in among the treasure and I named the bandit leader Thrym as links to the original Norse myth.

4. The main reason that I wrote "Little Red Riding Hood" was that I was tried of seeing wolves as the bad guy in fairy tales, so making Gourry a wolf was my way of bringing a little justice in the world in my own style.

5. My Zuko/Katara drabbles "You are Heartless" and "Heart of the Problem" were actually scenes I had imagined in for another fan fic in whick Zuko/katara were strandered on an island together. Even though I had planned to focus on keeping them in character and have the romance on a low level, I gave up on the idea and decided the scenes were better as drabbles because the plot was just too over used.

6. I mentioned the Wicked Witch in "Sleeping Amelia" because I recently bought the soundtrack to "Wicked the Musical" and she was on my mind while I was writing the story.

7. One of the reasons that "Wings of Love" is fast paced was because I really had wanted to write just a short story and not a long epic one like some of my stories before and I wanted it to have a fairy tale feel to it.

8. For a future story I'm working on, I wrote it as an idea from my own challenge in which Zelgadis was force to marry someone instead of Amelia for once. I do plan on finishing it, but I put it on hold because I want to finish writing out wild hearts first.

9. I once got a story idea from watching "Rita and Runt" from Animaniacs, but never got around to writing it. In it Amelia and Zelgadis accidently got turned into a cat and a dog and while traveling to find Lina, who is the only one who can cast the spell to change them back, they were joined by a saracastic rat and a short tempered raven. I'm not sure if I will ever write it, but it's store away for a rainy day.

10. One character I had made up, but have never written, was Rune for Loki Ragnarok. Rune was going to be the future child of Loki and Mayura (a half god and half mortal), but there is a hidden joke in his name. I once read that one of the meanings of the word "Rune" was mystery. I figured Mayura would choose a name that would have a strong connection to her love of mysteries.
