Title: Fear For The First Time

In battle, Zelgadis never felt fear. No emotion was expressed as he clashed swords against his opponents. The most he would do was smirk when his enemy attempted to kill him. He mocked at Dilgear as the wolfman tried to cut his stone flesh, but failed miserably. He let free his anger as he charged and attacked Rezo, hungry for revenge. He felt no fear facing Shabranigdu, for Zelgadis was fully prepare to die and join Zolf and Rodimus in the afterlife. He was worried when Copy Rezo severely injured Lina, but he still wasn’t afraid.

It was only when he watched Amelia be struck from behind by Seigram that his blood ran cold. Zelgadis’s knees buckled as the princess slammed against the rocks and crumpled to the ground. He shivered as Amelia lay motionless in a small pool of her own blood. For the first time, Zelgadis had truly been afraid.

Very good observation! There have been times Zel was afraid of Lina, but that was in the comedic sense where he was more wary of what ways she would inflict humiliation upon him next. But, I defintely remember how Zel looked not only then, but later on when Phibrizzo killed her a few episodes later. It's the only times I've seen him look that terrified and emotional.

So true! Somehow, Mr. "I am stone" can't keep it up when Amelia is involved.... It's really the biggest proof that they need to be together.

Exactly! As you said, Zel is afraid of Lina, but it's more, "oh what is she going to make me do now?" fear. It's not the same kind of fear he felt when Amelia got hurt. I remember, right after Amelia was healed Zel muttered "And here I was worrying about her..." I always found that so cute.

If anything, Zel's reaction to those times are probably some of the strongest Z/A evidence in the whole series.

The fact that Amelia can get a strong reaction out of him is some of the strongest evidence in the series. Zel can try to hide it, but he can't fight it. ^_~

Sheesh, for being short, the last few lines made my hair stand on end. o_O I think Next wins for most emotional upsets for the characters (except maybe Gourry, when he saw Lina take that it meant for Sylphiel), definitely. Brr! I have the chills now... Good job taking me right back to the moment I first saw that scene!

If it helps, I gave myself shivers when I wrote that last paragraph. XD The emotional outbrust is one of the top reasons that Next is my favorite season of the Slayers.

It's probably also the overall best written season, period. *Shakes fist at TRY* Awesome stuff all-around. I liked even more that it wasn't out of the blue, either. It was only expanding on hints the first season had already begun to drop.

Slayers Next is an awesome season (in my mind it's *the* season of Slayers. The first one was good but I adore Amelia's Next characterisation)

Even if fans are usually uncertain about Zel's real feelings, I've always felt (but I know that I'm a minority) that he's the one of the couple who makes more noticeable acts of serious affection. Nothing compares being slashed by Garv's sword for your girl
(Not to say Amelia didn't do anything for him: she saved his life at least twice ;) )

I agree with that. Zel's actions are at time more clear than some of the others, (if shielding you from Gavv isn't proof of love, I don't know what is) although Gourry has a couple of moments too, like when he bonked Lina on that head for making him worried and think she was dead. I always enjoyed that moment.
