Today, I saw the new Transformers animated series, which was basically the first three episodes. I have to say it wasn't great but it wasn't terrible either.
The Good Points:
1. At the beginning of the episode, I squealed a little because they had clips from the original 80s series as history videos. However, I did find it to be a bit confusing because I thought it meant they were continuing from that series, but later on I think it's clear that they're not and it's an AU, especially since the Autobots know nothing about humans and have never seem to have heard of earth.
2. The new Bumblebee was amusing and he had some of the best lines in the show. He reminded me of Rattrap from Beast Wars who I always loved.
3. The fact that the Autobots had no clue about humans and they're confusion about them was cute.
One example: A girl is about to go to the Autobot ship which is under water.
Girl:.....Can I breath under there?
Bumblebee: Sure!...What's breathing?
4. It was neat to see a younger Optimus (but I still don't like his new design.)
The Bad Points:
1. The chins. Why did they have to give the transformers such big chins, like Starscream? To me, a giant robot's face should be more rectangular and having such a round big chin just doesn't look right to me.
2. The humans designs. I really didn't like how the humans were designed. They looked too cartoony and I found I couldn't take them seriously. It would have been so much better if they even they had done the humans in a style more like the Teen Titans and The League of Superheros.
3. The all spark, I realize they're trying to tie it with the live action movie, but coudn't they have used some other plot device like something with the Matrix for us long time transformers fans?
4. Optimus died in the first couple of episodes and came back to life... something tells me I should start keeping track of how many times he's going to die in this series. XP
All in all, the series looks interesing enough that I may watch a few more episodes, however there is no way it's going to beat the original series.

Date: 2008-01-05 10:55 pm (UTC)In the original series he died like twice I think, in Beast Wars he died and came back (and got three different bodies during it) and don't get me started on the anime series (there are too many to count). It's almost become some sort of weird tradition to have in any new transformers series. -_-;

As for Optimus dead? OMG! Another Goku is here!

Maybe Goku and Optimus should start comparing notes on being brought back to life. I've lost count on how many times it has happened between the two of them.
