Sketches of *gasp* original characters

Some of you may remember when I posted this drawing of a group of some original characters I was working on?

Well, believe it or not I have done more drawings of others characters since then, but I hadn't gotten around to inking and colouring them. However, I thought it was about time I posted them. Actually I wanted to show you guys these while I was at anime north, except I forgot my sketch book. ^_^;






This one is called Fern (yes, I even picked named for them) She's probably the most adventurous of my little group and I like drawing those rings in her hair.



Iris, my favorite female design so far. I picture her having the most common sense and maturity.



Maple, very guliable but also very sweet and gentle.



And these guys...I'm not too sure myself, except calling the female Black Rose and the guy Thorn. I started to sketch these when I felt the urge to draw some fancy noble clothing and wasn't in the mood to draw humans to go with it.

So, I have no idea why I like drawing these characters. Mind you, I blame it from after watching Labyrinth one too many times since I got the idea shortly after. I've been trying to decide what to name this species, the name "Furling" keeps coming to mind, but it's not that original. I might make a story out of these guys someday, whether written or maybe even a comic but for now I just like drawing them. (They're easier then drawing humans if anything. ^_^;)

I always find drawing animals more fun than drawing people. I need to work on drawing humanoid animals though (since Alya's potential mate is a regular lycanthrope with a hybrid form), but wow, the clothes look good! I hate drawing clothes with a passion...

As to the name, why not try putting it in another language and see what pops up? Sometimes even a slight variation can make for an interesting name. (Case in point: not mine, but the race of elf my bard comes from is called 'Lythari', which of course is a variation on 'lycanthrope' since they have the ability to shapeshift into wolves. It's not radically different, but different enough to sound really cool.)

Clothes can be tricky. I'm always looking at other manga/magazines to get idea for clothing. Then you have to figure out how to draw the folds. ^_^;

Oh, good idea. I should try that with "Furling". What's funny is that I originally was going to name them "Furkin" but then I google it only to learn that it's a swear word in Ireland, so I didn't think it was a good name for them. XD

The first one is my favourite~ Very cute! I love the little squirrel and all the little lillies and reeds too. ♥

I do love the squirrel too, it's too bad my scanner cut him off his tail a bit. Poor squirrel.

I need to draw more of these furry critters. ^_~
