NaNo

Well, this year I'm doing something I wasn't sure I would ever get to do. I'm actually attempting NaNo this year. I had toyed with the idea earlier in the year, thinking about writing a Sleeping Beauty story idea I had for awhile, but then I had changed my mind because with my school work I wasn't sure if I had the time. Plus, I was still trying to figure the outline of my story, but as November grew closer, I decide instead of rushing the outline I set it aside and try it next year. That way, by next year I should have the outline then.

That was the plan, until I found myself attacked by a plot bunny. I blame reading "The King of Antolia". The main character is a thief, I like stories about thieves for some reason, and I got the urge to write a story about my own thief. What happened was this. I started to think of other characters I could add to this story, and then amazingly an actual plot, and before I knew it I had an outline a few days before NaNo started.

I couldn't believe. So, I'm trying it, but I have a gut feeling I won't finish my story or 50,000 word count by the end of the month, but I'm having fun which is the true point of NaNo. Also, I find this is a good learning experience for me, since one of my dreams is to be a published author. I have written original stories before, but this will certainly be my first original story that's a novel.

One thing I've learned is that writing an original story is a bit harder then a fanfic. The advantage to a fanfic is that the world and characters are already created for you to play with, so you're basically extending the story into how you see it. However, with original stories, you have to create and take the time to explain your own world and characters. I've created original characters before, but creating my own world with it's own laws, culture, technology, etc, is more tricky to figure out.

I also still want to tackle that Sleeping Beauty idea, but I think of this story as a good practice run if anything else.

For those who are curious, my story has a bit of a steampunk setting, and my characters in my story consist of: a thief for hire, a girl who doesn't talk, a little dog name Scrape and Rusty, a robot who thinks he's a dog. XD

I actually didn't officially sign up on the NaNo website. I wasn't sure if I wanted to share the story I wrote online in the end. But I still wanted to try it, so I'm just doing it on my own. I'll try to write updates on LJ on how I'm doing. ^_~

Ooh, go for it! Even if you don't finish, it'll still be fun, right?

Will you be posting it here for us to read? ~.^

Thanks, and having fun is the true point of NaNo. ^_~

At the very least, I'll probably post parts of here. I'm going to have to wait and see how it goes.

Original characters are a lot of fun. I've not written much on most of mine, but it's great to have a character that is totally and completely yours, you call the shots on personality and such, and no one can yell "OOC!" at you.

Just be careful. They take over! o_O

Oh, I know. They've already started to constantly nag at me to finish their story. ^_~

They're so nice like that...

(Sorry about earlier. My internet of course decided to have a major hiccup, so after forever I randomly had your last post but no indication you had logged off - aside from the lack of presence in the buddy list. Darn you, internet!)

That's okay, I figured it was something like that. Heaven knows how many times my internet has done that. -_-;

Funny thing, I was about to tell you I was heading to bed when you got knocked off. Talk about timing eh?
