V is for Ventriloquism
Lina was exhausted. After everything that happened at Gioconda's castle, her body was beyond sore. She had to cast a healing spell on her neck thanks to Zuuma trying to strangle her. What did that guy have against her anyway?
Of course, that was the least of her problems. They still had to deal with the resurrected Zanaffar and Duclis going on a rampage. It was not a good day. For a moment, Lina just wanted to focus on her meal, sleep in a warm bed and then think of a plan how to end all of this nonsense in the morning.
The others appeared to share the same feeling. There were only the sounds of chewing and swallowing. The silence was destroyed when Wizer stared at Pocota. "I must admit, it is impressive."
"What is?" Lina asked, refusing to look up from her plate.
"Your ventriloquism of that strange puppet. It's quite convincing."
Both Lina and Pokota dropped their utensils. The sorceress stared, gapping at the inspector. "Don't tell me you still think Pocota is some kind of puppet?!"
Wizer laughed. "Well, of course I do. You can't fool me Lina Inverse!"
Pocota jumped on top of the table. "Are you nuts? How can you think I'm a puppet when I am CLEARLY moving around of my own will?!"
Wizer pointed a finger at him. "It's an easy trick to do with mirrors."
"What mirrors?!" Lina screamed, holding up her hands. "Look! My hands are right here! And where the hell would I be keeping mirrors?!"
Wizer scoffed. "It's quite simple and I'll prove once and for all that I don't believe your trick." The inspector picked up Pocota by his neck. "If Pocota here wasn't a puppet, then he wouldn't have a zipper in the front would he?" He reached for the zipper. "So, I'll just unzip him and--"
*WHACK!
Wizer fell to the floor after receiving a rage filled punch from the little creature. Pocota panted heavily, waving a fist in the air. "Don't even think of trying that again you werido!"
Wizer lifted his head up. "You can even control him to punch me. Very impressive!"
Lina and Pokota continued to yell, loud enough to shake the roof. Amelia paused and whispered to Zelgadis and Gourry. "I think Mister Wizer was just trying to lighten the mood."
Gourry sighed. "If he's not careful, the mood will be even darker from having to arrange his funeral."
