Olympic Games Start

I watched the opening ceremonies of the Olympic games last night, and it was awesome. The light show they did was incredible. I think my favorite part was when they made it look like orcas were swimming across the floor. I would post a youtube clip of it, but there's not any yet. However, I also like how the four Chiefs were given VIP seats since the games are taking place on their land. The Aboriginal dancers they had were great to watch too.

Fun fact, the opera singer who sang the Olympic hymn as the Olympic flag was raised came from my city Fredericton. In fact, she graduated from my high school. ^_~

They also gave a moment of silence for the Georgia athlete that died yesterday which I was glad to see. The whole stadium had applauded his team when they had entered the stadium.

I thought the people they choose to carry the flag were all great choice especially Roméo Dallaire and Terry Fox's mom.

They also light the cauldron both inside and outside, with Wayne Gretzky lighting the outdoor one. The only problem they had was that the inside cauldron was suppose to have four pillars rise up, but they were having problems with the system so only three rose up.

I bet the technical staff were swearing and saying "CRUD! CRUD!" a lot when that was happening. XD

Anyway, the whole thing was awesome to watch and the games are off to a good start. ^_^

(Question, is it wrong I find the The Olympic Mascots to be extremely cute. XD )

I was hoping to watch the opening ceremonies yesterday but homework won out. I hope somebody does upload it to YouTube (or someplace of the like) soon though! Vancouver is not too far off from my own home so I want to see my neighbors in action! And the mascots are adorable! I can definitely recognize the Sasquatch, but I'm not sure about the other two. If I ever find plushies of these guys I am doomed! ^_-

The black and white one is a sea bear and the one with the wings and green out fit is a totem spirit.

I did a quick read on Wikipedia, so I'm in the know now. ^_- I hadn't realized McDonalds is promoting the Olympics! Gah, must resist... I think I will try to see if I can scrape the money together to get the plushies though because they are just that adorable, and again the west coast of Washington (my home sweet home) and Canada share so many beliefs and things. It's probably the closest the Olympics will ever come to Washington!

Plus, I know of at least one friend back home that will be tickled to see Sasquatch getting some love from the Olympics. He's really into the search for actual living sasquatch back in the Pacific Northwest. ^_-

I saw most of it too, and the lights and effects were pretty impressive. My favourite part was the fiddlers and tapdancers.
