Day #3: Your favorite heroine

captain Amelia

Treasure Planet doesn't get as much love and attention as it should and the same thing can be said about Captain Amelia. She is awesome. Amelia is a strong, independent women and won't let any pirate take over her ship without a fight. However, she's not cold and in her position, that could easily happen. She's energetic and loves a good banter.

I always felt so sad for her when Captain Arrow dies, you can just see in her face how much of a friend he meant to her. It's also fun to watch her warm up to Doppler, another awesome character. In rewatching the movie with [livejournal.com profile] secondlina I realized something. What's funny about these two is that we never seen them kiss, but in the end we see them with their babies. So they have no big declaration of that they love each other, it's quiet and subtle, but I think that fits for Amelia.

With that said, she also has one of the best introductions for a character:

Since you showed me that movie I have so much love for this character, it's ridiculous.

Well you know how Disney is, always putting things back in the volt. I didn't see in theatres (don't know why) and kinda missed the boat on this one. And then forgot about it.

I might keel over and die. At least you finally saw it! I think this movie did so poorly since so many people didn't see or buy it. Every time I show it, people enjoy it...

She's not the only one! I haven't seen this one either. (Therefore can't really comment, Joanne, except to say good clip!)

You not seeing it isn't a surprise to me. Isa's such a big Disney fan, it's just shocking!

*poke*

Well, looking back at the release date, I understand why I didn't see it - I didn't even know it existed until a year after it had come out! At the time, I lived in Selma and they didn't show Disney movies at the dinky theater there.

You yourself admitted to not watching Disney movies past Pocahontas, hence my not being surprised. You missed out on a lot of great gems!

Well, one correction - I did see Fantasia 2000 in theaters. I made sure I went and saw that.

But, for the most part, either they didn't catch my attention, I couldn't afford it, or I didn't know they were out because I was too wrapped up in work and lived in odd locations. I have been catching up though!

Plus, at least in my area, it strangely didn't come to my local theater. (I think it was only be released in imax theatres or something.) I had to wait to see it on VHS tapes before I could finally watch it. So, I wouldn't feel bad for not having seen it before.

With that said, I would recommend it to you Megs. It's a good movie and I know you would enjoy it. ^_~

It was released to regular theatres down here, but I'd not be surprised if it had been released to Imax theatres as well. It certainly had a lot of cool backgrounds and effects. It's great to see on a big screen though. So many of the characters are so radical and great to see, even if they're just a random alien passing by in the background! Hmm...I really do need to watch this again.

By the by, I absolutely love Emma Thompson as Captain Amelia. She actually helped Disney write parts of the script since she's very talented that way. ^_- I saw her act across her now ex-husband, Kenneth Bronaugh in Much Ado About Nothing originally, and she was such fun to watch! I'm glad she finally got a role in a Disney movie.

(You'd have heard Kenneth Bronaugh as one of the two main characters in Road to El Dorado. He played against Kevin Kline, who we previously heard as Phoebus in Hunchback of Notre Dame..and man oh man, so many great stage actors have leaked into animation. It's great!)

I might need to pull out this movie later..or perhaps listen to Jim's theme again. I'm not usually a fan of that style of music, but that particular song is very good. It really added that edge the movie needed to get across Jim's plight in dealing with becoming a man without a strong father figure in his life.

She does a wonderful job as a Amelia and I can believe her helping with the script, especially with that banter. She's very talented.

I love that scene with Jim and the song. It's the only song in the whole movie (except for the end credits) but it helps explains how much his dad leaving effected him and how Silver is becoming important to him.

I love, LOVE Treasure Planet. In fact, I think it was one of the first DVD movies I ever bought for myself. (Which I loaned out and lost. I'm thinking I should pick it up on the cheap on Amazon or something again.)

The way that she spoke was so different and eloquent! Emma Thompson did a fabulous job voicing her, but the way she was written was just awesome.
