Day #5- Your favorite hero

I am the terror that flaps in the night! I am the meme that infects your livejournal! I am DARKWING DUCK!
I picked Darkwing Duck because he's Disney's own little superhero (yeah, I know there are also Gargoyles, but I think DW fits more the classic description.) Darkwing Duck is a fun superhero, but unlike Batman and Superman, he has a large ego and is more than willing to accept the fame and fortune that comes with it. Although wit that said, he does have a code of honour and doesn't think twice about saving someone. Plus, he is a loving father to Gosling and does try to protect and help people he cares about.
One of the favorite things the writers loved to do with DW was write superhero parodies with. There have been a dozen episodes with him getting super powers. Darkwing Duck has gotten super speed, grown extra arms (spiderman reference), morphing powers just to name a few. One of the ongoing gags of the show is that Darkwing Duck has a dozen origin stories of how be became a superhero. There was an episode claiming he came from a dying planet (clearly Superman), one where it showed he came from a long line of heroes (Phantom I guess) and even one where he just took spare costumes from his high school storeroom.
With all of that said, I also highly recommend reading the new Darkwing Duck comic. *hugs first two issue*. I was planning on waiting for the paperback, but I couldn't resist. Also, apparently in my comic shop they been selling like hotcakes. The Darkwing Duck love lives on!

Date: 2010-08-07 03:38 am (UTC)I'm thrilled with the comic so far. At first I was worried that a modern Darkwing comic might feel off since the original used so many 90s-centric pop culture jokes; but the jokes about "Starducks" and the internet download police actually worked.
Now I'm on pins and needles for the Launchpad issue. And I'm holding out hope that we'll FINALLY get the Ducktales episode that should have happened back when the show was still airing.

Date: 2010-08-07 04:48 pm (UTC)That would be awesome. The plot wouldn't have to be hard either. (Yes, I've had this idea for awhile) SHUSH could just send DW to go and protect Scrooge from FOWL or something. On the way there, Launchpad keeps trying to tell DW he use to work for him, but doesn't listen until Scrooge recognizes Luanchpad.
DW: Why didn't you tell me he's your old boss?!
Launchpad: Hey, I tried.
DW:...*slaps forehead*
