Day #16: Your favorite classic
This was a hard choice because I love A LOT of Disney films, so I tried to narrow it down. My favorite old time classic (as in films during the 30s, 40s and 50s) would have to be Lady and the Tramp. However, then I thought about which movie as a kid did I happily watch over and over again. The answer was clear.

I love 101 Dalmatians, I've lost count on how many times I watched it. I still have the Pongo, Perdita and puppies stuffed animals that I got as a kid. I even still have an 101 Dalamtians counting book in which the puppies get lost and you as the reader have to go into each page and count the puppies to find them. It's a cute little book and a good way to teach a kid to count to 100.
(Can you guys tell I enjoy the dog movies as a kid? XD)
I love all the characters in the movie, even Cruella who is just hilarious to watch. Even the minor characters such as the Colonel and Sgt. Tibbs are entertaining. Roger and Anita would also have to be one of my favorite Disney couple. You can easily see them as a real married couple. The plot is fairly simple, but I think it's the characters that draw you in it.
This movie also has Disney historical significance in that it's the first Disney movie to use Xerox photography in animation as a way to save money in animation. Also, according to wiki, it was also the first Disney movie to be set in a contemporary setting and the first Disney film to have been created by a single story man.

Date: 2010-08-17 07:30 pm (UTC)Bill Peet was the storyman behind this, and Walt's right hand man for a long time until they had a falling out and he left the studio. I can't recall if they ever got the chance to make peace before Walt died, but Bill Peet was definitely talented. It's a shame he did leave. He was greatly responsible for a lot of story elements in the Jungle Book, too.
