Day 04 - The pairing with the most chemistry?

Sokka and Suki

I've always loved Sokka and Suki, they're just adorable and hilarious together and you could tell that from the first moment they met. Suki really taught Sokka how girls can easily fight and good (and even better) than men. What I also like about these two is that even when they officially become a couple, they're still interesting to watch. They'll likely to banter and tease each other, but that's what makes them interesting. One of my favorite moments in this series is when Sokka tries to make a "love tent" for Suki (who seemed as interested in going in to it).

With that said, I always felt Sokka's sudden love for Yue was really rushed. I realized they probably had the relationship for plot and character development reasons and they were short on time, but it just felt so unnaturally rushed to me. I realize I might be unfair since Suki and Sokka just had the one episode together before Yue came along, but with that said, those two seem to have a better chemistry than Sokka and Yue did. I like Yue as a character, but she just didn't seem to click was well with Sokka to me. (Also, first time I watched the episode I couldn't help but think "Dude, what about Suki? Aren't you rushing things?" @_@) And I can see Sokka teasing Suki more than Yue, but as I said this is just my opinion.

Ah, the "love tent". The scene where Zuko walks into it and surprises Sokka is one of the funniest moments in the show. I imagine Sokka and Zuko being unable to look each other in the eye for a few days after that. XD

I agree that Sokka's romance with Yue felt like it was there because the plot said so and not because the characters had any genuine chemistry. But it kinda makes sense when you remember that Sokka was kind of a sexist ass in the beginning of the show and he likely grew up believing that his ideal woman was a pretty, demure, submissive damsel like Yue. So the fact that he ended up being attracted to an amazon like Suki probably confused him and weirded him out initially (which is why he felt no guilt about hitting on Yue later on).
....and the fact that Yue was really pretty probably had a lot to do with it, too (Sokka is still a teenage boy, after all).

Poor Zuko, he probably had nightmares for a good week at least. XD

Yeah those are good points. With that said, it makes you wonder if Sokka and Yue would have as much in common if Yue had lived and they had an actual chance to be a couple. We really don't know if Sokka would have stayed with Yue if Suki showed up again while Yue was still alive, as you stated Yue was probably his ideal woman before Suki shifted his beliefs. It's hard to say what would have happened if Yue hadn't become the new moon spirit.

All I can say about Sokka and Yue is it's called infatuation. He's lived in a secluded tribe his whole life where the only girl his age is his sister, and that's just gross. The moment he sees a girl of a similar background and not related? Oh yeah, I don't blame him for falling over himself trying to get in her good graces.

You have to remember, these are teens we're talking about, they're not yet adult.

(And I can say nothing more since I've not been able to get past the first season. Sigh...)

I think the whole thing with Yue was more one of those situations where you adore someone without really knowing why (a lot of people get really powerful crushes like that... they fade a little when they learn who the person is. and sometimes even disapear). Suki and him was more of a normally developping relationship. And yeah, relationships that developp have a lot of chemistry. It was really done well.

I kind of agree with you about Yue - although I think a lot of it has to do with audience perspective. The kids spent a lot more time in the north than the episodes conveyed. It was long enough for Katara to go from being a pretty good waterbender to a master waterbender. If the series had stretched their time in the north out a little bit, I don't think it would've looked as bad. Still, I think it was sort of rushed and in some ways, over-dramatic. I do appreciate the Yue/Sokka relationship for its accomplishment at paralleling Kanna and Pakku's earlier situation and also emphasizing the many sacrifices Yue had to make for her tribe though - but I always thought one more episode of plot-building would have been good for that season.

Sokka and Suki are adorable though, so I'm kind of glad it worked out the way it did. I love seeing him get overprotective of her even though she's probably the last person he needed to worry about. Their reactions and interactions with each other in "Boiling Rock" were what really solidified this couple for me. =) Good choice!

You started the shipping meme and I didn't even know? DDD:!

On a related note, Sokka/Suki for the win! <3
