I'm Back and Thundercats

Well, I made it back home.
secondlina
dqbunny and I had a blast together. We hit China Town, Old Montreal, and just hung out and watch movies. I got some Sakura tea for Stu, and I managed to get the soundtrack for Tales of Legendia (it's not the best Tales game, but it does have the best music of the series) and I also got a Tales of Destiny bag and a Toaru Majutsu no Index bag. (Hopefully, I can find more Index stuff at anime maritime.)
Also, I just found this, a trailer for the new Thundercats cartoon. Is it wrong that I'm more curious about this series now? I'll save final judgment until I see the actuall series, but this trailer does give a bit of hope for it.

Date: 2011-03-02 01:20 am (UTC)And why do people keep rebooting classic series?! I mean, there's MLP, then Smurfs and now Thundercats?!?!
What's next I wonder? What happened to originality?!

Date: 2011-03-02 01:57 pm (UTC)I don't mind reboots if they're done well, but then again, it shouldn't stop them from making new stuff. (I'm especially thinking when they try to reboot series into live action movies. There are enough of them. @_@)

Date: 2011-03-02 02:12 pm (UTC)And since the kids who grew up on the originals most likely have kids now, that means they'll want to buy all of the toys like THEY used to have! Oh boy!!
But with the modern updates, they take away from the charm that made the originals classics in the first place, with the redesigns and flashy new animation styles. I realize kids nowadays are used to that sort of stuff, but it just makes the new versions of the characters look odd and weird.
And I found out the other day that there's going to be a reboot of the Voltron series that I LOVED as a kid. And of course, that comes with chracters redesigns that just look wrong.
Sorry if I seem a little long winded about this, but this is something that bothers me and has for quite some time. Some things just need to be left well enough alone...

Date: 2011-03-02 05:12 am (UTC)HOLY #%*&! How did I not know about the Thundercats remake. O_o
I never got into Thundercats as a child because I was all about My Little Pony and Rainbow Brite as a toddler. But that trailer looked AMAZING. The animation was feature quality! Even if the show sucks, I might watch it just to marvel at the eye candy.
You're right about the music being Legendia's ONLY saving grace. I loathed that game; but I still can't help busting out the soundtrack from time to time.

Date: 2011-03-02 02:03 pm (UTC)Legendia is probably one of the weakest Tales games (I would say the but then Tales of Symphonia came out), which stinks because I loved the character Chloe (Stu and I often joke that she was the real hero of that game.) It's so annoying how you don't get to fight Shirely and how she suddenly decides to not destroy the world just because Senel suddenly claims he loves her. @_@ So much for good character development.
I think the main problem was that the game was design by the people who did Soul Calibur and other fighting games. They don't seem to understand how an RPG would work.
Oh well, at least the soundtrack is worth listening to.

Date: 2011-03-02 02:44 pm (UTC)I agree that Chloe should have been the hero! That would have made for a MUCH more tolerable game!
That said, I was pissed when I played through her sidequest at the end of the game (the one where she confronts her parents' killer). The dude ADMITTED that he slaughtered two innocent people in cold blood (and in front of their kid!) when he could have just taken their wallets and ran. But EVERYONE in the game acted like Chloe was the biggest bitch in the universe for wanting to kill him just because he had a sick daughter. 'Cause, y'know, being poor and having a sick kid makes it OK to do horrible things for money.
Not saying Chloe was wrong when she decided to be merciful. I just think the guy should have at least gone to jail or something.
....yeah, I'm still kinda pissed about that part of the game. At that point, I wanted Chloe to stab the entire cast! -_-

Date: 2011-03-02 04:26 pm (UTC)What annoys me the most is that it would have been more interesting if Shirley accepted that Senel didn't love her and realize for herself "You know, causing genocide is not a good thing." People have to deal with rejection all the time, it's very rare that you stay with the first person you love. It would have just made her character more interesting (plus, I would find it way less creepy. I found I like Senel and Shirley better as a brother and a sister than as lovers.) Besides, Senel has spent all this time trying to protect her and help for heave sake, you would think that would mean something. Never mind the rest of the group who had risked their lives for her, which Shirley seemed to have forgotten. *twitch*
We haven't gotten to the side quests yet, we needed to recover from the ending, but I heard about that and it irks me greatly.
Remember the part when Chloe whacked Senel for being stupid? That has to be one of my favorite moments in the whole game. ^_^ Chloe is forever the real hero of that game in my mind.
(Sorry for the long rant. Legendia does this to me because it could have been a great game, but the later half screwed it up.)

Date: 2011-03-02 05:38 pm (UTC)The worst part about that Chloe sidequest was that her parents' killer wasn't even sorry about what he did! He was a bitter asshole and basically kept saying "My daughter is sick and it's not fair that rich people can afford to save their kids. So it was OK for me to kill your parents in front of you even though they didn't even fight back". And the entire gang felt sorry for him and ragged on Chloe for insisting that he deserved to be punished for his crimes simply because his daughter (who was insufferably annoying and had a weird girl-crush on Chloe BTW) would be sad if he died or went to jail.
....even though I knew better, I kept playing that sidequest in the hopes that the player could kill the guy. But instead, he gets a "happily ever after" with his little girl and Chloe is brow-beaten into letting the man who ruined her life get away without so much as a slap on the wrist! AAARG!!!
(Sorry for the long rant. Legendia does this to me because it could have been a great game, but the later half screwed it up.)
Are you kidding? I could rant about this game for HOURS! LOL
I started Legendia just a few days after finishing the AWESOME Tales of the Abyss. So that just compounded my hate and disappointment.

Date: 2011-03-02 05:55 pm (UTC)I think "Mermaid-Hitler" fits. Plus, when we got to Shirley for the final battle, Stu and I couldn't help but think that Shirley looked like an angry squirrel. XP Also, whose bright idea was it to have Maurits still be leader of the Ferines? I don't think having the guy that tried to cause genocide is a good choice to be leader. @_@ Why do the people in this game who should be punished are not punished properly?!
You know what, I would rather watch Chloe, Norma and Grune go have an adventure in their own spin off game, they were my favorites. (And I realize Grune isn't around anymore by the end of the side quests, but I can dream XP)

Date: 2011-03-03 04:32 pm (UTC)I didn't hate the He-Man remake at all... well maybe a bit but it was because I wanted it to be most accurate to the original series (to me whiney Adam was funny XDD).
Is there a Pound Puppies reboot?! I need to watch My Little Pony one too!

Date: 2011-03-04 02:08 am (UTC)I'll admit the remake wasn't terrible, but I found Adam to be a bit too whiney for me, but hey, it's been awhile since I've seen it. Maybe I should give it a rewatch.
There is a Pound Puppies reboot and it's rather good. (There's also a reboot of G.I.Joe for that matter, it's called G.I.Joe Renagade.) I think it's been over shadowed by the awesomeness of the MLP cartoon. The only problem is I find it's not as easy to find on youtube as the MLP cartoon. Hopefully, they'll release it on DVD soon.
