Well, I made it back home. [livejournal.com profile] secondlina [livejournal.com profile] dqbunny and I had a blast together. We hit China Town, Old Montreal, and just hung out and watch movies. I got some Sakura tea for Stu, and I managed to get the soundtrack for Tales of Legendia (it's not the best Tales game, but it does have the best music of the series) and I also got a Tales of Destiny bag and a Toaru Majutsu no Index bag. (Hopefully, I can find more Index stuff at anime maritime.)

Also, I just found this, a trailer for the new Thundercats cartoon. Is it wrong that I'm more curious about this series now? I'll save final judgment until I see the actuall series, but this trailer does give a bit of hope for it.

Welcome back!! Sounds like you guys had fun! Hope you took pictures!

And why do people keep rebooting classic series?! I mean, there's MLP, then Smurfs and now Thundercats?!?!

What's next I wonder? What happened to originality?!

Here's hoping Jem and the Holograms gets spared from a remake! If it was re-made today, it would probably look and sound more like Hannah Montana: The Animated Series than Jem. >_<
**shudder**

Dear GOD I hope not!

Us children of the 80's are seeing their childhoods decimated alas...

I guess they figured with the kids all grown up now, they have a new generation to suck in.

I don't mind reboots if they're done well, but then again, it shouldn't stop them from making new stuff. (I'm especially thinking when they try to reboot series into live action movies. There are enough of them. @_@)

No, it's all about merchandising. "Hey, let's do a modern update of all these old shows from the 70's and 80's that has the cool characters that people will want to buy toys of!"

And since the kids who grew up on the originals most likely have kids now, that means they'll want to buy all of the toys like THEY used to have! Oh boy!!

But with the modern updates, they take away from the charm that made the originals classics in the first place, with the redesigns and flashy new animation styles. I realize kids nowadays are used to that sort of stuff, but it just makes the new versions of the characters look odd and weird.

And I found out the other day that there's going to be a reboot of the Voltron series that I LOVED as a kid. And of course, that comes with chracters redesigns that just look wrong.

Sorry if I seem a little long winded about this, but this is something that bothers me and has for quite some time. Some things just need to be left well enough alone...

I'm glad you girls had a good time! Makes me wish I had the funds and free time to run off to Canada and say "hi" to y'all in person. ^_^

HOLY #%*&! How did I not know about the Thundercats remake. O_o
I never got into Thundercats as a child because I was all about My Little Pony and Rainbow Brite as a toddler. But that trailer looked AMAZING. The animation was feature quality! Even if the show sucks, I might watch it just to marvel at the eye candy.

You're right about the music being Legendia's ONLY saving grace. I loathed that game; but I still can't help busting out the soundtrack from time to time.

The show will either be great or not so great, I'll save final judgment until I see the show. Every show, reboot or not, deserves a chance.

Legendia is probably one of the weakest Tales games (I would say the but then Tales of Symphonia came out), which stinks because I loved the character Chloe (Stu and I often joke that she was the real hero of that game.) It's so annoying how you don't get to fight Shirely and how she suddenly decides to not destroy the world just because Senel suddenly claims he loves her. @_@ So much for good character development.

I think the main problem was that the game was design by the people who did Soul Calibur and other fighting games. They don't seem to understand how an RPG would work.

Oh well, at least the soundtrack is worth listening to.

Ugh. Don't get me started on Senel and Shirley. The fact that she's a selfish idiot who only cares about humanity when her crush likes her back (because THAT'S a healthy way to build a relationship) is bad enough. But I was more disturbed by the fact that the first half of the game -and the game manual- tells you that they're siblings and then Shirley suddenly starts mooning over him in the second half. EWW!

I agree that Chloe should have been the hero! That would have made for a MUCH more tolerable game!
That said, I was pissed when I played through her sidequest at the end of the game (the one where she confronts her parents' killer). The dude ADMITTED that he slaughtered two innocent people in cold blood (and in front of their kid!) when he could have just taken their wallets and ran. But EVERYONE in the game acted like Chloe was the biggest bitch in the universe for wanting to kill him just because he had a sick daughter. 'Cause, y'know, being poor and having a sick kid makes it OK to do horrible things for money.
Not saying Chloe was wrong when she decided to be merciful. I just think the guy should have at least gone to jail or something.
....yeah, I'm still kinda pissed about that part of the game. At that point, I wanted Chloe to stab the entire cast! -_-
/end rant

I tried to like Shirley, I really did, but her actions in the later half of the game just ruined it for me.

What annoys me the most is that it would have been more interesting if Shirley accepted that Senel didn't love her and realize for herself "You know, causing genocide is not a good thing." People have to deal with rejection all the time, it's very rare that you stay with the first person you love. It would have just made her character more interesting (plus, I would find it way less creepy. I found I like Senel and Shirley better as a brother and a sister than as lovers.) Besides, Senel has spent all this time trying to protect her and help for heave sake, you would think that would mean something. Never mind the rest of the group who had risked their lives for her, which Shirley seemed to have forgotten. *twitch*

We haven't gotten to the side quests yet, we needed to recover from the ending, but I heard about that and it irks me greatly.

Remember the part when Chloe whacked Senel for being stupid? That has to be one of my favorite moments in the whole game. ^_^ Chloe is forever the real hero of that game in my mind.

(Sorry for the long rant. Legendia does this to me because it could have been a great game, but the later half screwed it up.)

I agree. It would have been great if Shirley had accepted that Senel didn't love her romantically and moved on. It would have made her a lot more dimensional and easier to relate to. But instead they chose to make her a genocidal bunny-boiler (and I won't even get into the psychological bugaboos of desiring a man who was intimately involved with her sister >_<). I could have forgiven that if the game ended with the gang kicking her ass to stop her from becoming Mermaid-Hitler. But, sadly, forgiving unrepentant murderers was a disturbing theme that seemed to run through this whole game!

The worst part about that Chloe sidequest was that her parents' killer wasn't even sorry about what he did! He was a bitter asshole and basically kept saying "My daughter is sick and it's not fair that rich people can afford to save their kids. So it was OK for me to kill your parents in front of you even though they didn't even fight back". And the entire gang felt sorry for him and ragged on Chloe for insisting that he deserved to be punished for his crimes simply because his daughter (who was insufferably annoying and had a weird girl-crush on Chloe BTW) would be sad if he died or went to jail.
....even though I knew better, I kept playing that sidequest in the hopes that the player could kill the guy. But instead, he gets a "happily ever after" with his little girl and Chloe is brow-beaten into letting the man who ruined her life get away without so much as a slap on the wrist! AAARG!!!

(Sorry for the long rant. Legendia does this to me because it could have been a great game, but the later half screwed it up.)

Are you kidding? I could rant about this game for HOURS! LOL
I started Legendia just a few days after finishing the AWESOME Tales of the Abyss. So that just compounded my hate and disappointment.

It's nice to know I have someone else I can rant to Legendia about. XD

I think "Mermaid-Hitler" fits. Plus, when we got to Shirley for the final battle, Stu and I couldn't help but think that Shirley looked like an angry squirrel. XP Also, whose bright idea was it to have Maurits still be leader of the Ferines? I don't think having the guy that tried to cause genocide is a good choice to be leader. @_@ Why do the people in this game who should be punished are not punished properly?!

You know what, I would rather watch Chloe, Norma and Grune go have an adventure in their own spin off game, they were my favorites. (And I realize Grune isn't around anymore by the end of the side quests, but I can dream XP)

All the girls in that game except Shirley were cool (and I liked Moses, too). They should have just ditched the others after the "Mermaid-Hitler" fiasco and had adventures of their own (preferably starting with the assassination of the asshole who killed Chloe's parents).

This trailer actually does look good - and I tend to write-off remakes, especially remakes of childhood favorites. This looks like it might be a little more multi-dimensional than the original too.

It does look like it has more depth. I'll be curious if they just have Lion-O a teenager from the start or have the whole "was a kid but body grew into an adult while in sleep chamber now I'm a giant man child." Got to say, I won't mind if they make him a teenager from the start.

And I still haven't had the chance to watch My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. DD:

MLP is definitely one of the few 80s shows that benefited from a remake. Even with nostalgia goggles on; I have to admit that the original MLP was just not very good and doesn't hold up if you watch it as an adult.

I don't know what to think about Thundercats remake. The Thundercats were the most awesome thing in my childhood -and two years ago a mexican channel started to broadcast the series again and I was utterly happy about it-.

I want to watch this remake but I don't know how much my Thundercats fangirl self could bear it xD

The series could ever be great or it could suck. I hated the He-man remake they tried a few years ago (they made Adam so whiney.) However, I guess my hope is re-kindle since My Little Pony had such a good reboot (along with G.I. Joe and even Pound Puppies is having a decent reboot.) However, I'm going to give final judgment once I see the show.

Trailers can make anything look awesome, so they're not the best thing to go by alone.

((I love your icon ♥))

I didn't hate the He-Man remake at all... well maybe a bit but it was because I wanted it to be most accurate to the original series (to me whiney Adam was funny XDD).

Is there a Pound Puppies reboot?! I need to watch My Little Pony one too!

(He he! Thanks and I love your Beatrice/Battler one.)

I'll admit the remake wasn't terrible, but I found Adam to be a bit too whiney for me, but hey, it's been awhile since I've seen it. Maybe I should give it a rewatch.

There is a Pound Puppies reboot and it's rather good. (There's also a reboot of G.I.Joe for that matter, it's called G.I.Joe Renagade.) I think it's been over shadowed by the awesomeness of the MLP cartoon. The only problem is I find it's not as easy to find on youtube as the MLP cartoon. Hopefully, they'll release it on DVD soon.
