Symphonia Ponies
May. 3rd, 2011 10:51 pmI blame this combination on reading Tales of Symphonia fics and watching too many episodes of Friendship is Magic.
Kratos and Lloyd make very cute ponies I have to say. I'm thinking about doing more Tales of characters in pony form. (Yuri and Estelle are currently on my list.)

In other news, I recently rewatched the Munto anime . This series has a bit of an odd history.
Here's the AnimeNewsNetwork summary:
Akuto, the main source of energy is running low and the Heavens, a world of islands, hidden beyond time, floating above ours, has united against the Magical Kingdom whom uses the most energy. To save both the Magical Kingdom and the Heavens and restore the flow of akuto, the Magical King Munto must follow a vision and find the girl Yumemi in the lower world. Yumemi herself is just a normal girl except that she is the only one who can see the islands of the Heavens floating above. When Munto appears before her she starts thinking about hers and others responsibility to the world
It first just started as an one shot OVA in 2003, but then it proves to be popular enough for there to be a sequel in 2005. The only problem was the sequel ended on the most evil of cliffhangers. It wasn't until 2009 that we got to see how the story ended. They basically made it into a nine episode anime (anime as in they just combined the first two OVAs and then added three new episodes to wrap up the plot.) The anime did end on a bit of a cliff hanger, but it wasn't nearly as bad as the one in 2005. (Seriously, these writers are as bad as the ones for Reboot. They keep wanting to add more.)
What I like about this series is that the story doesn't just focus on Yumemi and Munto, it also focus a lot on Yumemi and her friends, especially Ichiko (who is one of my favorite characters.) I also find it interesting that we see Ichiko worried about Yumemi being dragged off to another world and she won't be able to protect her. She's just a likable character.
While the OVAs have been license the anime itself hasn't, so it's easy to find on youtube thankfully. And who knows, maybe the writers will feel like writing more to this story eventually.

Date: 2011-05-04 02:51 am (UTC)The anime really could have used being 13 episode instead of 9, it probably still would have been rushed but it would have given the characters more time at least. I really wanted to see the girls interact in the magical world more (plus I kept expecting for Ichiko to glare and Munto and say "If you make Yumemi cry I will so kill you!" and Munto just starting going "What?")
The sailor fuku threw me off too, until it occurred to me that Munto probably doesn't know much about the lower world and those were the last clothes he saw Yumemi in besides the sweater. Thus he might have thought those were the uniforms for female warriors in her world.
With that said, have you seen this?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYNhgxu2mAo&feature=related
No clue if this is official or not, but I'm hoping it is. Maybe we'll be lucky and we get more...sometime...eventually. @_@ *sigh* maybe I'll just rewrite a fanfic on it or something some day.
EDIT: Hey, looks like they are making a Munto three: http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/searchposts/5400318/
Here's hoping for more character development. ^_^

Date: 2011-05-04 03:50 am (UTC)So yeah, outside of fanfiction, I don't think there's going to be a continuation of the series any time soon, which is sad since this is one of the few original series produced by Kyoto Animation and I was really hoping they'll put a lot of effort into it. But I guess if something doesn't make much money you shift your focus to the series that does bring in the cash (i.e. Haruhi, Clannad, K-ON!, etc.) :(

Date: 2011-05-04 03:57 am (UTC)I know it's Haruhi and Clanned are the reasons it took them so long just to make the anime. Priorities I guess?
(And they can't even get their money making series right *grumbles* Endless hate for Endless Eight *grumbles*)

Date: 2011-05-04 03:50 am (UTC)I have a DVD marked "Munto: The Movie" that I bought off a friend mainly because I knew Veronica Taylor was in it (lame reason, I know). It was a bit confusing and I was pissed when a cliffhanger ending hit just as I was figuring things out. I went online and found that legit copies of Munto DVDs are pretty hard to come by. :P

Date: 2011-05-04 04:01 am (UTC)I believe they are hard to find since the company that fansubbed them went out of busniess (I think it's the one that originally did Slayers, but I could be wrong.) The anime series is up on youtube (it hasn't been licensed) and it has the conclusion to the second one...except it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger as well. The cliffhangers wouldn't be so bad, but they take so long to add to it.
Anyway, the first six episodes are pretty much the two OVA and then we get the new content to finish the story. It is worth watching. XD
