I know this is over a year old, but this just makes me head desk. New Gargoyle movie that is NOT based on the cartoon series
What I don't get is that Disney is making a whole new world and movie franchise, when they already owned the rights to the original concept and is still highly popular (there have been 13 years worth of Gargoyle conventions and it still has a high fanbase.)
I don't mind reboots of series, but I can't help but feel this is Disney saying they didn't like the way Greg Wiseman handled the story and this way they can get the story they want and make money from the popularity of the original series.
To me, it would make more sense to make a movie based on the original cartoon because I can only see fans of the original cartoon being annoyed by this.
I don't think it would bug me so much if they were just trying to do something new with the concept of gargoyles, like maybe gargoyles have to battle goblins, or they were created by an ancient alchemist or something. However, the fact that this movie is about gargoyles protecting their cities JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL SERIES just annoys me. -_-;

Date: 2011-07-22 08:39 am (UTC)In addition to being cruel, it's bad business. Weisman's involvement and support would convince his legions of fans to check the movie out. And I'm sure it wouldn't be hard for him to adapt the 5-part Gargoyles origin story into a live-action film.
If this movie makes enough money to spawn a franchise; I will be a very sad fangirl. :(
