Puss In Boots
Nov. 1st, 2011 10:13 pmStu and I went to see Puss in Boots and I can honestly say this movie was awesome. It absolutely stands on it's own and a person who had never seen the Shrek movies can totally enjoy it. The writers made sure to not put any references to Shrek or the gang at all in this movie, but everything we knew about Puss before this movie can still be considered canon (including the part he says about his "Mother" in Shrek 2, but I won't go into anymore details than that.)
I will say that the tone of this movie felt a lot more serious than Shrek movies, I would say it's on the level of How To Train Your Dragon if that makes any sense. I had wondered if having Puss as the main character would be too much, but his character was balanced really well with Humpty and Kitty. There were also quite a few cats jokes that were cute and quite enjoyable. I'm kind of hoping a short will be released with the DVD showing Kitty's interaction with Shrek and the gang because I would be curious to see their reactions to her.
Also, the animation in this was gorgeous. We didn't see the 3D version, but I can see how some of these sounds would be great to watch in 3D.
Overall, Puss in Boots is worth seeing. I would even say that if you didn't enjoy the Shrek movies, there's a good chance you would enjoy Puss in Boots more because of the more serious story. I'm totally getting this when it comes out on DVD

Date: 2011-11-02 03:37 am (UTC)And I think I read somewhere that this movie was set before the Shrek movies? I may be wrong though, I'm not sure.

Me too. I want a Kitty Softpaws plush to go with my Puss one.
