Title: The Debate

Lina was disgusted. Enraged. Burning with hatred. How, how could she have been married to this man for ten years and never seen the truth? Granted, he had never lied about it, but to have never told Lina - it was unthinkable!

Sure, Gourry had a swiss cheese memory, and wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but she always, ALWAYS gave him credit for his common sense. However, to learn that Gourry actually disagreed with her on this issue, there was no doubt he was clearly a stranger to her.

Lina breathed in deeply as she rose from her wooden chair. Gourry kept his serious frown from his spot across the kitchen table.

"Take that back," Lina demanded.

"No," Gourry replied firmly, as he folded his arms and readied himself for battle. "I'm not changing my mind on this."

Lina fumed and began to stomp over to him. "How could you," she mumbled and continued mumbling until she was nose to nose with him. With a snarl, Lina let loose her fury. "HOW COULD YOU SAY THAT CARROT CAKE IS BETTER THAN RED VELVET?!"

"BECAUSE IT IS!"

Lina reeled back like her leg had been stabbed. "Are you insane?!" She drooled as she pictured her favorite cake in her head. "Red velvet is so rich and smooth," Lina narrowed her eyes. "Carrot cake is just a lame excuse to put a vegetable in a dessert!"

"How can you say that?" Gourry shot back as he bolted from his seat. "The carrot and the nuts are a perfect blend of flavours. And the cream cheese frosting-"

"Don't bring that into this!" Lina yelled, the cupboard doors rattling behind her. "They just throw that in as an attempt to make it better. IT'S AN INNOCENT VICTIM!"

On the other side of the kitchen, Zelgadis rubbed his eyes while Amelia sighed in exhaustion. "I just like chocolate chip," Amelia muttered darkly.

"Don't you dare start," Zelgadis ordered, but was distracted as Emilie tugged on his sleeve.

"Uncle Zel, why are Mama and Papa fighting?"

He exchanged an unsure glance with Amelia. Technically, Emilie was the cause for this heated debate. However, how could a seven year old, or any sane person for that manner predict that simply asking "Mama, Papa, I can't decide what kind of birthday cake I want. What do you think I should get?" would have caused this household to go to war?

Amelia pondered as Lina began arguing that anything red was simply better and that was that.

Amelia knelt and smiled sweetly at the confused child. "Emilie, how about your uncle and I get you a nice white cake at the bakery?"

Emilie beamed, then paused and asked "Can it have a rose on it?"

"Sure," Zelgadis replied as he took Emilie's hand and the three of them began to leave the chaos behind. "It can have ten roses on it if you like."

Emilie cheered and when they returned she gave each of her parents a slice of cake with a big pink rose on it.
