I had almost forgotten I wrote this. I'm getting bad as Gourry. XD
Title: The Price Of A Good Memory
Series: Slayers
Characters: Gourry, Lina, Zelgadis and Amelia
Rating: G
Summary: Lina gives Gourry a potion that is suppose to improve a person's memories.
Gourry shook the small bottle and the green liquid inside bubbled. He looked through the bottle and stared directly at Lina who sat with her legs folded across the bed.
"So, this stuff is suppose to improve my memory?"
"That's what the lady claimed," Lina said with a grin and shook her fist. "And you should be grateful that I got it for you, this stuff was expensive."
"Even though you haggled the lady so you got it for a copper coin," Zelgadis muttered next to Gourry, but went silent when Lina sent him a death glare.
"In any case," Lina continued as she rose from the bed and pushed the bottle in this hands up to his lips. "Drink up and say goodbye to your swiss cheese memory."
"Hold on!" Gourry yanked the bottle away and jumped up in self defense. "How do we know this stuff would change me into a frog or something?!"
"I looked over the ingredients the lady used for it Mister Gourry," Amelia added from behind Lina. "It's mainly just different herbs and roots, there's really nothing magical about it."
"Which makes one wonder what's the point in drinking it anyway," said Zelgadis as he leaned against the palm of his hand. "The whole thing sounds like a scam to me, but I am surprised you fell for it Lina."
Lina folded her arms and kicked Zelgadis's chair. "Hey, I'm willingly to try anything that can improve Gourry's jellyfish brain memory." She shrugged. "Besides, if it doesn't work, I'll just politely go get my money back."
"Either that or burn her shop down probably," Gourry muttered.
Lina glared and jabbed her finger at his chest. "I heard that, now drink it!"
Gourry stared unsure, and then sighed as he removed the cork. Taking one last gulp of air, he lifted the bottle to his mouth and drank it in a single swallow. He placed the bottle on the side table and learned forward. His hands were folded in his lap and he appeared lost in thought.
There was no sound for a moment. Finally, Lina's patience couldn't stay it any longer and she tapped Gourry shoulder. "You okay?"
Gourry than pushed his chair back, moved pass Lina and went over to the table where Zelgadis was sitting. He reached for a piece of paper and began muttering as he wrote on it.
"Let's see, there was the fish dinner at the village, the steak in Atlas city, the ice cream shop in Seyrune..."
Amelia stared confused. "Mister Gourry, are you alright?"
"I'm fine, more than fine," Gourry replied, without looking up from his writing.
Lina titled her head. "Then, what are you doing?"
Gourry frowned and his eyes narrowed. "I'm remembering and making a list of all the times you were suppose to buy me supper, but I forgot so you had me paid for myself."
Lina's jaw dropped. "What? Wait, come on Gourry, there weren't that many-"
"248 dinners," Gourry replied with this final stroke of the pencil. "And if my math is right, this is how much you owe me."
Lina took the paper and paled as she stared at the large number. "Are you crazy?!" She waved the piece of paper like it was on fire. "That's enough to buy three swords?!"
"It's not that shocking considering how much you eat," Zelgadis remarked.
Lina crumpled up the paper into a ball and promptly stomped on it. "Come on Amelia!"
Amelia gave a yelp as Lina grabbed her arm and dragged her out of the room. "Where are we going?!"
"I'm getting an antidote for that stupid potion! It's more trouble than it's worth!" The door slammed shut. When the boys could no longer hear Lina's feet pounding down the stairs, Zelgadis picked up the ball of paper and tossed it in the near bin.
"Gourry," he said slowly. "That potion didn't do a thing did it."
"Nope, I just made that number up" Gourry replied as he stretched out on his bed. "I figured this could teach her a lesson."
Zelgadis smirked and wondered how long it would take Lina to figure it out.
