I'm in a real good mood today. Not only did I find out that the sequel to "Inkheart" came out (which is called Spellink) but on the back cover of it, it said that a movie is going to be made on "Inkheart". ^_^

"Inkheart" is one of my favorite books. It's written by Cornelia Funke. It's about a girl named Meggie, who's loves to read books, along with her father, but then trouble starts when a man named Dustfingers comes to see her father. Things get even crazier, as she learns that her father has the power to bring characters from books to life by reading aloud. One of those characters happens to be a the most evil villan ever created and he wants to use that power for his own means.

It's a great book. I think it's something everybook worm should read at least once, because I found I coule related to the characters so much. "Inkheart" is the first book in a triolgy and "Spellink" is the new second book. I would read it now, but I'm currently reading "Artemis Fowl" so I want to wait until I'm done that at least.

Also, this is a one-shot I wrote for the [livejournal.com profile] slayerscontest The theme was "Body Switch"

Amelia’s head was spinning. She felt like her stomach was turned inside out. Her entire body felt oddly numb and heavy.

“Hey Amelia1 Wake up!”

She recognized Lina’s voice and forced her eyes to open.

Lina was kneeling beside her as she sighed in relief. “It’s about time you woke up!”

“What happened? Amelia was startled at how deep her voice sounded. Was she getting a cold?

Amelia rubbed her eyes. Her memory slowly came back. “Oh...I was helping Mr. Zelgadis with a spell he translated from a book he found. Then there was a bang.....”

“That would be the spell.” Lina seemed to be fidgeting. “Gourry and I rushed to your room when we heard the noise.”

Amelia frowned. “What was wrong with her? Oh no! Could it be?!”

“Is Mr. Zelgadis alright?!”

“......He woke up half an hour ago...”

That wasn’t an answer! “So, he’s okay?”

“Er.....relatively yes.”

Amelia was getting annoyed. Why wouldn’t she give a straight answer?!

“Ms. Lina, is there something you’re not telling me?”

Lina gulped. “I don’t know how to tell you this, but Zel mistranslated the spell. It’s not a ‘body changing’ spell. It’s a ‘body switching’.”

The princess froze. No....way!

Slowly, she glanced down. Her hands were blue.

Amelia jumped off the bed and grabbed the closest mirror. Instead of her familiar reflection, she saw Zelgadis’s.

Amelia was in Zelgadis’s body!

No words came. Her mind had shut down.

Lina patted her shoulder, trying to give a normal smile. “Now don’t panic. It’s not as bad as you think.”

“.......I’m in Mr. Zelgadis’s body!!”

“True, but you could have switched with a rat or even Xellos.....Actually, I don’t think there is much of a difference between the two.”

“Hold it!” Amelia thought. If she was in Zelgadis’s body, then that also means...

“Where’s Mr. Zelgadis....er...I mean my body?!”

“He’s in my room with Gourry....”

Amelia raced out into the hall and pushed open the door to Lina’s room.

Gourry was sitting on the bed next to, who she mentally knew was Zelgadis, but appeared to be herself with a scowl on her face.

It was beyond bizarre to see herself with such an expression.

Gourry waved to her. “Hey Zel....I mean Amelia.”

The princess said nothing. She approached Zelgadis.

He was staring at his feet like a child ashamed of his actions.

“.......Mr. Zelgadis?”

He gave a tired sigh. He had been dreading this moment.

“Yes it’s me.”

Amelia saw it and still couldn’t believe it.

Lina stepped into the room. “Geez! Amelia would it kill you to wait!”

The princess didn’t seem to hear her. She just stared at Zelgadis.

Then she let out all of her frustrations the best way she knew how. She screamed!

“How could this have happened?! I want my body back!”

Zelgadis couldn’t look at her. “I can’t blame her. Who would want to be in a body as abnormal as mine.”

“I don’t want to be a boy!!”

Zelgadis fell off the bed. That was what was bothering her?!!

Lina patted her on the shoulder. “I know it’s hard to be in a guy’s body, but just try to deal with it for now.”

Gourry and Zelgadis sweat-dropped. They both felt insulted somehow.

“How do we switched back?!” Amelia asked.

“Er....you can’t.” Lina replied.

Panic struck! “But I’m a girl! I don’t want to be a boy forever!!”

“Calm down.” Zelgadis replied. “What Lina meant is that we can’t do anything, but the spell isn’t permanent. It will wear off in a few hours.”

The stress was finally lifting. “Well that’s not so bad then..but this is still .....um....”

“Weird?” Gourry suggested.

“I was going to say ‘awkward’ but ‘weird’ works.”

Lina grinned. “Well, since we cleared that up, let’s go Gourry!”

Zelgadis’s jaw dropped. “Where are you two going?!”

“The all you can eat buffet downtown.”

“But you can’t leave us like this!”

“Why not?” Gourry asked. “The spell will wear off and it’s not life threatening.”

“Exactly!” Lina added. “The only thing I suggest is to not take a bath otherwise you’ll be forced to see each other’s bodies ‘from top to bottom’.”

Both Amelia and Zelgadis blushed and were too stunned to move.

Lina took this opportunity to dash, out with Gourry following close behind.

Amelia let herself collapse on the bed. She was completely drained. This was so weird. Plus, with Zel’s stone skin she couldn’t really feel anything she touched. She could see why this body angered Zelgadis so much.

“I can’t believe this happened.”

“You and me both.” Zelgadis replied. “I don’t blame you if you hate me.”

This caused Amelia to sit up. “Hate you? I don’t hate you! I’m....rather frustrated...but I don’t hate you. Everyone makes mistakes.” She stared at him seriously. “I could never hate you Mr. Zelgadis.”

She showed him a hopeful smile. “Besides, I feel like I can understand you a little better now that I know what it’s like to live in your body. So, let’s just make the best of things.”

Zelgadis didn’t dare say it out loud, but it was freaky hearing such enthusiasm coming out of his own mouth.

Then suddenly, a sharp pain hit his stomach.

“Dammit! Not again!”

Amelia frowned. “What’s wrong?”

“My stomach keeps hurting. I wonder if you caught the flu before we switched.”

The expression that grew on her face worried him. Amelia looked like she’d just been told to eat a jar full of spiders with ketchup.

Amelia bit her lower lip. “Um....it’s not the flu......”

Zelgadis was baffled. “But what else could it be?”

Amelia’s ear turned red and hot. Nervously, she twiddled her thumbs.

“I forgot that..... ‘it’ started yesterday....”

“What did?” Zelgadis asked suspiciously. Surely it couldn’t be worse then what he was going through right now.

“.......My ‘time of the month’....”

It took many things to be able to freak out Zelgadis.

This was overkill for him. The only thing that might scare him just as much would be for Xellos to declare that he was Zelgadis’s long lost father, and even then it was questionable.

Amelia worried that Zelgadis’s whole brain had crashed.

“Mr.Zelgadis?”

He continued to say nothing and started to leave. “I...need....to....take...a ...walk....A LONG WALK....”

Amelia’s first reaction was to follow him, but she decided against it.

“I just hope he doesn’t get into any trouble.”

Zelgadis walked along the street with no real destination planned.

“Why?! Why do these things keep happening to me?! Did I do something horrible in a past life to deserve this?!”

He longed to punch something. Not only did he end up in a girl’s body, but it had to be during the most “feminine” time a girl could have! He hated his life! He hated the world! He wanted to scream! He wanted to cast a dragon slave and ...........

He paused at the last thought. “What’s wrong with me? I’m starting to think like Lina. I’m not usually this....emotional...”

And why did he also feel so angry and annoyed.

Yes, he was usually angst, but this was extreme even for him.

Another jolt of pain came. He groaned. “And women do this once a month?! No wonder they get so irritated when a guy says he ‘knows the feeling.’ There is no way a guy could possibly understand! (Sigh) I need to sit down.”

Zelgadis went inside the nearest building, not caring that it was a bar.

He sat at a table and a waiter approached him. “What will you have Missy?”

Missy! Zelgadis’s eyes twitched, but he calmed down. “A cup of coffee....Strong black coffee.”

Just as the waiter nodded and left, Zelgadis felt a hand on his shoulder.

He grimaced at the outcome and turned. Please! Please don’t let it be....

He stared into the eyes of a rosy cheeked drunk man. The drunk grinned, while wobbling a bit. “What’s a cute thing like you doing in a place like this?”

Zelgadis was getting a migraine. He removed the hand like it was a dead rat.

“Mind your own business.”

The drunk laughed. “Feisty aren’t you?! Come on! Loosen up a bit! I can show you a real ‘good’ time.”

Zelgadis growled. If this guy didn’t leave soon, he was going to get violent.

The drunk put his hand on Zel or, in this case, Amelia’s butt.

All bets were off!

Venomously, he stated “Say your prayers!”

Elsewhere....

“That was good!” Lina moaned happily as she and Gourry headed back to the inn.

“Yeah!” Gourry agreed, picking at his teeth with a toothpick. “I wonder if we should’ve invited Amelia and Zel to come to cheer them up a bit.”

“Nah! I doubt they were in the mood to leave the room....”

“Ms. Lina!”

“......Then again I could be wrong...”

Amelia came running up to them.

Lina had a sinking feeling that Zelgadis did something stupid....again!

“Ms. Lina have you seen Mr. Zelgadis anywhere?”

“No! And why would I know?! I assumed you two would just stay in the room until the spell wore off!”

Amelia blushed. “We did..but he took off on his own, and he’s been gone for an awful long time and I’m worried.”

“Why did Zel suddenly take off?” Gourry asked.

Amelia blushed even harder and coughed uncomfortably. “Um...You see. It was right after I remembered that I’m...er...my body is going through.... ‘that time of the month’.”

Gourry’s jaw dropped. “Poor Zel! No wonder he ran! That’s just.......uh oh..Then that also means....”

Lina was stunned, but it barely lasted a moment and was soon overcome with laughter.

“HA! HA! Serves him right! Oh man! This is priceless!”

“Ms. Lina it’s not funny!”

“No it’s hilarious! Man what I would give to see Zel’s face when...”

“We have to find him now!” Gourry yelled.

“Why?” asked Lina confused. “Sure it’s uncomfortable, but he’s not going to die.”

Gourry sighed. How could they not see the big picture?!

“Think about it! What is Zel’s mood like on a regular basis.”

Lina rolled her eyes. “Angst, moody, and serious but we already knew that!”

“And he gets annoyed real easily.” Amelia added.

“Right!” Gourry repiled. “Now imagine an annoyed, angst, moody, serious Zel with PMS thrown in the mix!”

The girls paled, horrified.

“Oh....my....GOD!” cried Lina.

“We have to find him before he hurts someone!’ Amelia yelled.

CRASH!

A loud sound of glass breaking echoed from down the street.

Gourry sweat-dropped. “Too late.”

They ran to the source only to stumble across a frightened man covered in glass from a broken window. His eyes locked onto them and he crawled on his hands and knees.

He tugged on their boots pleading “Please! Save me! SAVE ME FROM THAT MANIC!!”

Amelia felt a large knot in her stomach.

It grew even larger when she heard a voice shout “GET BACK HERE!!”

The man screamed and dashed off to the nearest church to become a monk. He would never have to deal with women again that way!

Zelgadis kicked the door open. “Where is he?! I’m not through with him yet!”

The three friends sweat-dropped. “I never thought I ‘d say this, but Zel’s A LOT scarier then Lina when she’s angry.”

Lina bonked him on the head. “Shut up and grabbed him!”

They tackled and carried away Zelgadis, who continued to yell about taking his rage out on some jerk.

Lina grumbled. “Great now you’re sounding like a girl too!”

Later......

Zelgadis lay faced down in his pillow moaning. “I can’t believe I let myself lose control like that!”

“It was a little extreme.” Amelia replied. “But it could have been worse.”

He stared at her darkly. “How?”

“......I’m not sure, but I just know it could have been.”

Zelgadis sighed. “I can officially say I have a whole new respect for women.”

Amelia perked up with interest.

“If you have to go through this.....ordeal once a month, then it’s amazing you all don’t go on a rampage.”

Amelia sweat-dropped. “It’s not always that bad, but I imagine it’s a big change for a boy.”

“It can’t be any less shocking then being in my body.”

The princess stared at herself in the mirror. “It is a challenge, but I don’t find it as horrible as you keep telling us. Sure the odd numbness feeling is strange and I don’t like how I can’t feel the things I touch, but I like how really strong I feel and blue is a nice colour.”

Zelgadis stared back in disbelief. “The strength is one of the few benefits I enjoy, but how can you say that the numbness is only a minor discomfort. I can’t stand it!”

“I can see why, but it’s not something I couldn’t live with. It’s not really all that different from a person who was born blind or deaf is it. Many people are born with physical problems, but they still carry on with their lives.”

Zelgadis was silent. “I’ve never thought of it like that. I can see what you’re saying, but I still want to find a way to become human again.”

“I know.” Amelia smiled. “But it can’t hurt to like your body more. Besides, everyone has something they hate about their bodies. I hate the fact that I’m so short!”

Zelgadis blinked. He wasn’t expecting to hear that from her. “I can see it being a nuisance at times but.....” He blushed. “I think it makes you look cute.”

Amelia blushed and smiled back at him. “Thank you.”

Zelgadis said nothing more and picked up the book that had caused all of this trouble in the first place. It was then he noticed that the page he had been translating continued on the next page.

As he read it, he felt a tingle throughout his body.

Suddenly, it felt like his very spirit was yanked out of his body. Everything was in darkness, but the second he blinked he found himself in his own rightful body.

He glanced at Amelia, who was currently hugging herself.

“Thank goodness that’s over!”

Suddenly, Zelgadis snatched the book from Amelia’s lap and finished reading the line as he translated it in his head.

He paled.

“What’s wrong?” Amelia asked.

The chimera gulped. “The spell doesn’t actually wear off. I made another mistake in the translation before.”

He stared at her like a scared rabbit. “The spell is actually a curse and it just transfered itself to a new couple.”

Amelia’s throat ran dry. “To which couple?”

“The couple we last had contact with.”

“But wouldn’t that be Ms. Lina and Mr. Gourry?”

It was then a loud yell rattled the inn’s walls. “ZEL! AMELIA! I’M GOING TO KILL YOU!!”

It sounded like Gourry’s voice, but the tone was all Lina’s.

Amelia glanced at Zelgadis. “Hide in the woods for a few days?”

“Two weeks sounds safer.”

^_^; I know! I have a strange mind!
