I saw Inkheart and I have to say I am really happy with the movie adaptation of it. They were mostly very faithful to the book with a couple of small changes and one big change, but they're changes that are both understandable and live able.

First of all, in the novel when Maggie is testing out her silver tongue powers, it wasn't Toto that came out of the book, but Tinkerbell from Peterpan. This change I think was for the better actually because Toto was far more useful than Tinkerbell. The most Tink did was go off with Dustfinger and gaze herself in the mirror. She didn't help the plot much besides showing that Maggie has the power too, so I think the movie was better off with Toto. Plus, between the two, I prefer Toto. XD

Elinor coming back with the army of magical creatures was a nice touch. In the original novel she was a hostage along with Resa when Maggie read the shadow to come out. So, I like the idea of her gathering up the creatures for a rebellion. It wasn't really needed, but it was a nice touch.

I kind of wish they had Moe finish off Capricorn since Maggie couldn't bring herself to do it like in the novel, but this might be more of nit pick and it's a liveable change.

Finally, and this is probably the biggest change I imagine some fans will complain about. Dustfinger not only coming back to set the castle on fire but he also got sent back in the book. For those who don't know, the novel ended with Dustfinger stealing the book and he wasn't able to go back until the beginning of the second book.

It slightly surprised me, but I was glad to see it actually. I think leaving Dustfinger in the real world when he so desperately wanted to go back might have left an unsettle feeling with the audience unless they decided to do the second book, and considering how the second book ended they couldn't leave it unless they made the third one too.

Therefore, unless they wanted to leave a movie a big loose end to tie up they would have to do the whole trilogy. So, I can understand why they have Dustfinger go back because it just settles and wrap things up without having to go into 2 more movies.

Overall, I enjoyed this version. There were changes, but I like to think of the ending of an alternative version of the story. Also, it's rather nice just to have one movie and leave it at that. I think Inkheart is probably one of the better movie adaptations of a book that I've seen for awhile. Anyway, it was a good movie and I recommended especially to any book worms. ^_~
