Cake Class Results

eastofthemoonAs some of you may remember I've been taking a cake class with my mom. My last class is this Thursday and I figured I better post the pictures we've taken so far.
For the second class, we had to pick an image and use pipping gel to trace the image on parchment paper and transfer that to the cake. After that, you get to fill in the outline with icing. (Fun tip, to smooth out the icing after you spread it on a cake. Wait a few minutes and then drape parchment paper over it and smooth it out with your hand. It gets it really smooth. The only trick is that it has to be icing made from shortening, don't think this would work so well with canned icing like Betty Crocker.)
Anyway, I attempted to do a Fluppy Dog, but he got a bit multicoloured.
Mom did a butterfly!
Next up cupcakes! We got to play with different kinds of icing tips.
These are mine.
I had fun with the leaf icing tip with this one.
And these were my mom's
We're going to attempt to make Stu's birthday cake for the last class. I'm going to do a German Chocolate cake and Mom is going to try one with lots of flowers.
