Well, today is the last day for AmeZel week and my last entry is a drabble.
Title: Welcome Home
Rating: G
Characters/Pairings: Zelgadis/Amelia
Summary: After weeks of being away, Zelgadis is finally home.
Author's Note: This drabble is part of my Slayers Parenthood series, in which Zelgadis and Amelia have a son name Zack and a chimera dog name Nama
He'd been gone for a week and a half, but Zelgadis still felt as if it had been a month since he had seen the palace gates. He had gone to the ruins that had been discovered a few weeks previously by a pair of local farmers.
Phil and Christopher agreed that they needed to send a team of sorcerers to properly investigate it and see if there was anything that could be dangerous. The last thing they needed was for some random adventurer to go in without knowing any better. Some thought they were being paranoid, but considering Seyrune's luck of getting at least a third of the city destroyed in incidents, no one could really blame the royal family.
Zelgadis was chosen to lead the team. He would have prefered to go by himself, but even he had to admit it would go faster if he had a team of sorcerers with him. Amelia had wanted to go as well, but she had to organize the harvest festival. Not to mention she also had to make sure Zack didn't try to stow away with them as well. Zelgadis didn't want to think about just exactly what kind of trouble the boy could get into in an ancient temple.
There were artifacts that would make Lina drool and a few ancient tomes, but there was nothing else worthwhile to be found in the ruins. It would be a big relief to Phil, that was certain. He sighed with relief for himself as he walked down the hall.
Zelgadis was tired and happy to be home. He mused to himself. It was not that long ago that he really had no place to call home. He'd been raised as a nomad, and followed Rezo in his travels. While he appreciated the concept, he never fully grasped exactly on what it meant to have one place to call "home".
Over time, Seyrune had certainly become a place Zelgadis had a tendency to drop by and stay awhile. However, old habits died hard. It took a long time for him to consider Seyrune his home.
A thought struck him. When was that exactly? Surely, it was before he and Amelia were married wasn't it?
Zelgadis pondered this thought as he reached his room and turned the door knob.
A sudden scuffle was heard from within.
"DADDY!"
"WOOF! WOOF!"
"NAMA! NO! STOP!"
The door flew open and Zelgadis found himself laying on his back. He had been pinned by Zack, who sat on his chest grinning madly. "Daddy! You're home!"
Nama woofed from her spot sitting on Zelgadis's legs while wagging her tail. Amelia groaned as she picked herself off of Zelgadis's feet.
"Sorry, dear," Amelia sighed. "I tried to hold them back."
Zelgadis sighed sympathetically as he scooped up Zack and sat upward. "It's alright, I should have expected it by now."
"Daddy! Daddy!" Zack pulled on his shirt. "While you were gone, Aunt Lina's hair turned green, Mommy yelled at the tax collectors, Lori and I climbed up the palace wall and Nama ate a bug!"
Nama gave a firm "woof" in reply.
"That's interesting," Zelgadis said slowly and put him down. "Would you please go tell your grandfather I'm home."
"Okay, Daddy. Come on, Nama!" The dog barked and instantly chased after Zack as he giggled and ran down the hall.
Zelgadis climbed to his feet and smoothed out his shirt. "So, why exactly did Lina's hair turn green?"
Amelia sighed and shook her head. "It's a long story." She pointed towards their room. "I'll fill you in over a cup of tea." She smiled and kissed him on the cheek. "Welcome home."
Zelgadis took her arm and smiled. He was home and that was all that mattered.
