Today, I went out shopping and founds a couple of treasures that I was very happy to get my hands on.

I found and bought the first volume of "The Story of Saiunkoku" (aka "Saiunkoku Monogatari") It has the first five episodes, plus I bought the verison that came with a little black box to put my DVDs in.

Then I found something that I hadn't expected to see and really cheap. The old anime dubbed cartoon of The Wonderful Wizard of OZ on DVD no less. I'm not sure if many people has ever seen or watched this series, but I remember watching it as a kid right after I got home from school.

Actually, it might be something you might want to watch sometime [livejournal.com profile] secondlina because this anime was based more on the actual OZ books. For example: Dorothy doesn't have ruby slippers, but plain white ones like in the book. So now, I'll have to keep my eye out for any of the other DVDs to this one.

I meant to reply to this yesterday, but I followed the link and got distracted. (I win!) I never saw that show, but there used to be quite a few dubbed series on television when I was a kid. I ought to go dig up some information on them, if only for nostalgia's sake.

Is the DVD version uncut, or the heavily edited version? *reads Wikipedia too much*

Unfortunately, the DVD is the heavily edited version, so a lot of the original plot arcs were cut, like the Mouse Queen plot arch which annoys me. (sigh) The actual episodes of the series were never release on video.

Personally, I would have much perfered to get the actual episodes, but I decided to get the DVD mainly for two reasons:
1. It's probably the closest thing I'll ever be able to get of the original series.

2. It was REALLY cheap, we're talking less than $10.

Maybe, I'll be lucky and the series will air on tv again sometime, but until then at least I have the DVD.

Oh, I saw Saiunkoku Monogatari at Best Buy today and I thought of you. XDD By the way, I never did thank you for the recommendation, but I did watch the first nine episodes online. So thank you!
