Looking back, I went through a lot of changes this year. One of the biggest being that I graduated from university. It's also the first year I've had to spend with [livejournal.com profile] gullwhacker going to Waterloo to get his masters.

However, after working a bit and taking a break from studies, one of my plans for the new year will be for me going to go back to school. I was hoping that I would find a job working as a librarian assitant, since I have all of the qualifications for it, but there's one problems; there aren't that many job openings. In other words, if I want to find a job in a library, without waiting years on end, I would have to leave Fredericton, which I don't want to do.

So, since I don't want to work in retail all of my life, I'm going to go back to school. Right now I'm leaning toward early child education because really alot of stuff I'm into is kid related. Cartoons, books, etc.. and the audience I wish to be a writer for are kids. Starting next week, I'm going to look at all of the different programs the local community colledges are offering. I know one of them has a early childhood/teacher assistant combination program, so that might be a good one to take.

I also have a few New Year's Resolutions, wheter I will do them is another question:

1. Finish rough draft of original novel (I'm still working on the outline)
2. Finish "Wild Hearts" (It's the only fanfic that I haven't finished)
3. Draw a comic (something I've always wanted to do)
4. Finish playing a couple of my video games before buying new ones.

Good luck with going back to school! I understand your sentiment completely. I really didn't want to leave Tuscaloosa when I graduated college, but the only way for me to advance in my career was to start moving - and moving and moving. I realize though that not everyone can do that. I miss school so so much!

Thanks, truthfully, I think it's something most people have to face in their lives sooner or later.

Right now I'm in my deciding phase. The earilest I would be going back to school would be the fall, but I may even take longer to decide what I'm going to do.

You know, if working in librairies really interest you, you could go get a college degree. Here in canada we have a college degree called librairy technician. My mother has that; she's been a librairian all her life. She works at schools and universities, mostly in the education departements for the universities. It's not true that there is no jobs for it; actually, my mother suggested I take the class. She thinks there will be quite a bit of opening since with that you can work anywhere with documentation. They might not give the course in your area, but it's definitly offered here in the capital. Check it out. At worse, if you feel like coming down here to see what it's like, i'll be glad to shelter and guide you.

(nods) I know there are jobs, but there are just none opening locally. Plus, there would probably be some opening eventually, but I would be waiting awhile before they do.

I did think about taking a librarian technician course, there is one in dalhousie. Right now, I'm just reseaching and finding out what all of my options are. The earliset I would be taking any course would be in the fall, but I may even take longer to decide what I want to do. Before taking anymore classes, I'm making sure it's what I really want. ^_~

It's a shame that there aren't enough openings for the library assistant, but at least if you do that program, you can have more options in future, right?

Exactly and it's something I would enjoy more than retail. ^_^

Probably because customers frustrate me easily.

Sometimes you do have to leave the area you grew up in. I doubt I'll find work in the field I'm graduating in here at home. It saddens me, but sometimes that's just the way things go. Moving out to a new place isn't always a bad thing, either. Good luck, no matter what you decide to do.

...and people finish old games before getting new? ^_- This is something I keep on thinking about as well. Back in the day games didn't come out as often, so it was easier to finish and master a game, but anymore they come out so fast I also haven't beaten quite a few games. It's kind of frustrating...

Thanks, I'm still in the deciding stage. I imagine there will be a point in my life when I'll have to move away, I'm just not sure when that will be. ^_^;

I notice some people can make it into a habit. A lot of my friends do it too. I haven't been buying too many new games for awhile, but I do want to finish the ones I have before even think about starting a new one. I have quite a few that I should try to finish. ^_^;

oh, ps. I need some info about the toronto expedition. I found a good hotel to book; it's cheap and I actually stayed there, so I know it. I need to know if you, gull and becka plan on switching hotels after the con. Most of us are staying from the 21th to the 27th.

We were planning to head back home on the Sunday, however, I'm going to double check with the guys and see if they're interested in staying an extra night.

I'll know for sure by Jan. 1st, so I'll send you an e-mail then to let you know what our plans will be. Is that okay, or do you need to know sooner?

You're not the only one who hates retail-I have tried it twice in jobs and had top quit, for one because they were both in the mall, and two, because they're retail! I think it's a great idea that you're going back to school-that will broaden your horizons! Fredericton's a great place to live-did you know that my present director (who lived and graduated from the National Theatre School in Montreal) has come back to live here? He doesn't really like huge cities anymore! I still don't have any idea want I want to do, and neither do most of my friends. I think there's almost too many choices out there!!! We'll find our way one day, hun!
