The last couple of days, [livejournal.com profile] gullwhacker and I have been fangirl/fanboy over the annoucement of a new Tales game. Why is this exciting to us? First of all, it's being made by the same team who did Tales of Symphonia and Tales of the Abyss and I enjoyed both of those game.

EDIT: For those wondering, the name of the new game is "Tales of Vesperia"

Second, it's going to be the first Tales game to the first Tales game to be released in Japan and North America AT THE SAME TIME! ^_^ The game sounds really interesting, from what we read from the interview Apparently, unlike pervious games when the main hero does alot of growing up during the game, this main character is more mature and is more focuss on helping the other characters grow up. I think they're doing this because they're trying to make the game more appealing to university students and not just high schoolers.

It's going to be released on the xbox 360, so since Gull and I don't own one we figured we would buy one together. We've been thinking about it for awhile anyway, since I've also been wanting to play Enternal Sonata, and this just gives us more motivation. XD

Last night, I spent it watching episodes of Jim Henson's The Storyteller and it just reminded me more that I really need to buy the DVD of this series. For those who don't know, The Storyteller, is basically Jim Henson's attempt at retelling old folktales with his own twist. [livejournal.com profile] secondlina if you never watched this series, I suggest you do. It has a very nice fairytale element.

One of my favorite episodes is Sapsorrow, which is based on the story All-Kinds-Of-Fur

Hey, Apple fanatic here. I could probably quote what you're about to rant about in one or two places. =P

I've considered a solution, though - get a used 360. Microsoft doesn't get any more money, as the money goes to the reseller who bought it from a previous user. Call it an indirect rebellion.

That, and a way to save a few dollars. Ahem.

I agree, that's probably the best plan for us to take. ^_~

That, or see if they port it to another console. You never know, it could happen. (Symphonia was only supposed to be for Gamecube when they first released it, after all.)

Eh, I don't mind. XBox 360 also has Eternal Sonata, my brothers are big on Halo so I could polish up those skills, et cetera.

...and I remember hearing once something about Microsoft actually losing money on the XBox consoles themselves, and trying to make money on the software. Might've been the original XBox, though... =P

From what I understand, Microsoft has been purposely bleeding itself the entire launch of the XBox, not selling them for what they really cost, etc., because they're trying to take over the gaming market. I'm not sure about the 360, but I haven't heard anything to say different. (And if this is any indication...)

I'm waiting to see what happens, personally. If Nintendo continues to dominate with the Wii and whatever else it can come out with, and if Sony keeps offering up steep competition as well (hard to say, with the poor sales performance of the PS3 in comparison), Microsoft may finally decide it's best to stick in markets where it doesn't have to lose so much money in hope of making later gains.

Yeah. I probably won't plunk down money for any of the next-gen consoles until there's a game that I /have/ to play on one of them. There are a few possible candidates in that regard...

Halo 3 was kind of one - but, hey, my brothers have the console and the game. So it doesn't count.

Tales of Vesperia - possible.
Super Smash Brothers Brawl - possible.
Haven't seen anything yet for the PS3...(.../are/ there games for it yet?)

I never buy a system unless it has games I want. I might have bought the PS2 if it weren't expensive, faulty (a guy back home dubbed it the POS2), and I really hate the controllers. But anyway...

If I can hook up a console in Canada this May, I'll be bringing Brawl with me. If you can wait that long, maybe then you'll know whether or not to break down and buy the Wii. ^_-

(There are games for the PS3, but I've not heard of anything noteworthy on there.)

I go by the same policy. The last two consoles I got...

Gamecube: Tales of Symphonia, and the promise of Twilight Princess. Which, IMO, was worth it.
PS2: Tales of the Abyss. Hands down. Oh, and I suppose KH and a few other games.

So, I'm kind of going by the same logic here.

(As for the PS2 controllers: I don't mind them, but then I liked the original XBox controllers - the massive chunks of plastic - so who am I to talk?)

I had a Wii when Twilight Princess came out (actually got the system for the game, but then didn't get the game for about a month or so), which was all kinds of awesome, but I'm glad Nintendo released it on both consoles. I need to play the game through again one of these days.

...I can't even hold the XBox controllers very well. I'm cursed with small hands, so anything targeted strictly to guy gamers means there's no chance I can really hold onto the darn things very well. ...and they really are massive chunks of plastic! The N64 controllers were pretty big (and awesome! I miss the design), but the original XBox controllers put them to shame! o_O
