Avatar Season Finale
Jul. 20th, 2008 07:52 pmBefore I start my post on the Avatar season finale, I do want to mention that my computer has started to work properly again this morning AND I DIDN'T DO ANYTING! @_@
gullwhacker thinks it was the internet provider aka Rogers. Even though I did called them and they didn't seem to know what was going on, they must have done something to my connection and have somehow refixed it. Weird...at least my family doesn't have to waste money fixing it.
Now then...
OMG! THIS WAS WAY TOO AWESOME! I'm not sure if I can put this in the right words This has to go down in history as one of the best wraps up for a cartoon series. My body is still shaking from the excitment.
I have so many favorite moments from this finale. The old master of Pakku, Bumi, Jeng-Jong, etc combining their attacks was fantastic. Of course, Iroh gets to spends his days happily in his tea shop.
I wish Toph had gotten her field trip with Zuko. I just love their relationship while it's friendship or possibilly romantic (when Toph is older mind you). It's just fun to watch and they really seem to click together. To me, Toph would be the much better little sister to Zuko than Azula ever was.
The part when Zuko was crying and aplogizing and then Iroh just hugged him had me crying. It was so touching. I think it was one of the most powerful reunions scenes I've ever seen.
Ty-lee joining the Kyoshi warriors, I never saw that coming, but I love the concept. I want to write fanfics now of them bonding in prison. She would fit so well in that group.
Aang taking Fire Lord Ozai's fire bending abilites, didn't surprised me. I had a feeling that's what the writers were going to do since Aang didn't want to kill him and it is a cartoon geared towards children. How they did it, was very nice.
Then Azula, I actually felt sorry for her. Losing Ty-lee and Mai really did a number on her mental state. If she did became Fire lord, she would probably be know in history as becoming one of the paranoid and insane rulers.
I will mention that I would like to know where Zuko's mother is. I was worried that the finale wasn't going to even touch that, but that fact that Zuko demanded to know from his father I believe hints that Zuko will find her. I still wish I could see that see too.
Also, I had always thought that Momo had some sort of grand importance cause in the first season their seemed to be hints of that, like from Bumi. I still think there is something important about Momo, but it's possible I have an over active imagination.
Finally, as Stu's friend said, the Zutara ship has returned like a ghost ship rising from the depths. I love how well they fight together and both took down Azula. This actually lends me to bring how my shipping changed during this series.
When Avatar first started, I was a strong Zuko/Katara shipper because frankly it reminded me so much of Zelgadis/Amelia. Zuko/Zelgadis being the bad guy first and then becoming friends, and there did seem to be hinting in the first season of it coming.
I didn't care for Aang/Katara too much mainly because Aang is 12. I think he is rather young to be finding true love. Granted, Katara is 14 so she is rather young too, but still I don't know many 14 year old girls wanting to get together with a 12 year old boy.
Then Mai came along, and I didn't enjoy her at first. I didn't hate her, but she didn't show much of a personality either and I wasn't sure how she clicked with Zuko.
Since the first season, my shipping has become much more general. I still like Zutara, but I find I'm much more accepting of Aang/Katara and also Mai/Zuko, plus I also have so many side pairings I like too like Sokka/Suki and Sokka/Toph (I can't decide which I like more).
Aang has gotten so much more mature since the series began. Plus after all the poor little guy has gone through, you can't help but route for the guy to win the girl he has a crush on. Mind you, I still think 12 is young (although, since it's been a year in the Avatar timeline he would be 13...) I can see Aang and Katara getting more serious in a few years.
Mai is probably the biggest opinion I had changed about and it was all because of the Boiling Rock episode. She really show how angry she was at Zuko for running away and considering Mai usually hides such emotion is a big character change. However, there is one single event that really won me over. She ignored Azula and help Zuko escape, even though as she said the guy dumped her and just left a note. (You can't really blame the girl be being mad about that). Then when Azula questioned her about it, she simply replied "I love Zuko more than I fear you."
She knows what Azula is like and what Azula will do to her, yet Mai still faced her to save Zuko. That impressed me greatly. Also, Ty-lee won major cool points from me when she took Azula down when she was about to try to kill Mai. That also took guts to do. So, Zuko/Mai has become much more appealing to me. In fact, I wish I could see Mai interact with the Aang gang more.
In conclusion, my Avatar pairings have become much more general and is not limited to just a couple. Even so, the pairings isn't the reason I grew to love Avatar. I watched Avatar because it has such a great storyline, heartfelt characters that you grow and cry along with in a world that is incredible. Mike and Bryan are true masters of their art and I only hope we get more stories in this world.
