Last night, Stu and I went to a Wizard of OZ play and the actors did a good job.

The play was basically a stage version of the MGM movie so it was a musical production. I forgot how LONG the Munchin song at the beginning was and I've come to realize that King of the Forest song and scene really has no point. Someday, I would love to see a stage version of the original novel. There's suppose to be a dozen stage versions of the novels that were done before the movie came out.

With that said, this version did include a couple of things from the original novel. Th biggest thing was that it included the Tinman's backstory. For those who don't know, his axe got enchanted and he kept getting his body parts replaced by pieces of tin. So, got to admit that was surprising. Also, the actor that played the lion stole the whole.

They did add a line for her.

Lion: My father took me up a high cliff and said everything I saw would be mine...I WAS TERRIFIED!
Dorothy: Why?
Lion: I HATE HEIGHTS!

The Wicked Witch was given a couple of new lines too.

Witch: Is that my sister?! *gasp* Of course it is! Only SHE would dare to wear strip socks with Ruby slippers.

That had me chuckling for a minute there. They also had gotten a real dog to play Toto, she was so cute. They just had her appear in the beginning then just pretend she was in Dorothy's basket until she actually reappeared for the ending bit of revealing the Wizard. I get that because the dog kept looking like she wanted off the stage. She was really cute.

All in all it was a good production, although Stu and I did have a chat after the play.

Stu: If you were Dorothy and you suddenly found yourself in a magical land where your house and suddenly killed a witch, what would you have done differently?
Me: *thinks* Ask questions.

Seriously, to me, the Dorothy in the movie at least, should have asked "What do the ruby slippers do exactly? How do I use them? What happens if I don't follow the yellow brick road? Does the Wicked Witch have a weakness? Why the *beep* didn't you just send me home in the first place Glinda?! And no I don't buy the 'You wouldn't believe me story'!"

Yeah, Stu and I are on the theory that Glinda was the mastermind before the whole thing. Either that, or Glinda was just too lazy to send Dorothy home. XP
