I think I found the pattern for my wedding dress. I looked at a local bridal shop yesterday, but the dresses were far too sparkling and glittering for my taste. (I've seen tiaras with less sparkle.) Plus, I want a dress with sleeves and of course NONE of the dresses there had any.

So, since I wanted a dress with sleeves I decided to go it would be easier to have it made. A friend of my mother is a professional seamstress, so finding a person won't be a problem.

I've been looking at sewing patterns for the last few months and I found this one.

We can easily make a couple of alterations, such as to tie a ribbon around the waist, having the top and skirt match and the length of the sleeves. Anyway, I think this pattern is me and the best part is the website is having a sale on the bridal patterns. ^_^ Talk about perfect timing.

I like the design of the dress, but I don't like how the top is overly decorative while the bottom is plain. I'd make then match at least, or maybe add a top skirt layer with the decorative fabric just to tie the two together more. Be prepared for a lot of alterations though. Patterns are made with "one size fits most" mindset, so for whoever makes this, it's best to make a shell of the pattern out of cheap cloth (muslin) and then have you try that on to see how it fits, so alterations can be made. I had to take an entire semester on alterations. Rather eye-opening how poorly patterns fit.

I hear you on wedding dresses though. There are actually a lot of LDS-specific bride stores anymore since it's nearly impossible to find a modest dress otherwise. I'm all for having sleeves...

We're planning on having the top match the bottom, it's one of the changes I want to make. Also, we're going to have the dress made by a friend of mom's who sews wedding dresses for a living. Don't worry, I wasn't planning on making the dress myself. ^_~

If anything else, I'm going to have sleeves just to spite all of those sleeveless dresses. It's weird how this has become the latest fashion, especially since a lot of people don't look good in sleeve/strapless dresses. @_@

Oh, I know it, you said as much in your post. I was just giving you an idea on what to expect (and agreeing on changing the look of the dress).

I might have to try one of those LDS shops/websites if I ever get married. Because it doesn't look like the sleeveless/strapless/backless fad is going away anytime soon. :P

Just to give you an idea on how many there are out there's here's a basic Google search. I used to drive past an LDS wedding store all the time when I lived in Idaho, and there are certainly a lot of them in Utah... I just hope they allow for mail order since I don't plan on driving that far when the time comes! ;)
